Have almost identical stats they are both 5-0-1 . Montreal has scored one more goal but Buffalo has let in one less. Does anyone here think Buffalo can keep up playing at this pace ?
Oh yeah i forgot, isn't it weird seeing the Habs 4th in the standings with a 5-0 record lol
They're not all that different from the team they had a few years ago. Vanek has emerged, so have Roy & Pominville. They play the same system that made them a success. The biggest difference is Campbell.
I think they'll hit 99 points this year, 2nd in the division.
Technically they have only scored 20 goals and not 22. They've won two games in a SO which counts as a goal in the GF column. Same reason why we didn't actually score more goals then Ottawa last season. Not a big deal but I wanted to be like a Sens fan who would always set us straight.

I really like Lindy Ruff's coaching style. I believe this is a big part of their success.
They are a good team and was sure before the season started that they would be one of the playoff teams in the East. I never can bring myself to hate that team.
I don't imagine both teams playing at this pace all season or even for another month, but I could see the Habs and Sabres going 1 and 2 in the Northeast.
The Sabres should not be discounted as a serious threat to the Habs to win the Northeast (and the conference) this year. Personally, I think last year wasn't an accurate reppresentation of the team. There was a huge leadership void with Drury and Briere gone, Brian Campbell was a distraction, and Ryan Miller was so focused on becoming the leader that he forgot how to play goal. This year they seem to have grown up in a hurry and learned from last year - they seem a lot more like the team that won the conference two years ago.
The are many similarities between the Sabres and Habs:
- gritty, ex-player now the coach
- 3 scoring lines who are fast and move the puck well
- gritty 4th line
- strong goaltending
- great contributions from "no-name" 4th, 5th, and 6th D-men
I think we're a little stronger - especially on D, but they have one thing going for them - nobody's expecting much from them this year (like the Habs last year).
Not to be negative or anything - but nobody has mentioned Buffalo has given us are only loss. I predicted them to finish 7th, but their even stronger than I thought, and should finish ahead of Boston.
Still think the Habs are better overall, but the Sabres are a fast, young, exciting team. Could make it interesting, the division certainly isn't guaranteed to us.

I would also add the coach in there. Need more of this in the NHL.

buffalo has a great team, they are underestimated. they do have some good depth as well, and they play an offensive system. they are a dangerous team and can battle for teh division tittle is MTL ever slips. this is why the habs must remain sharp and continue to work hard.
the season is long and many things can happen, so players must show up for every game!
How can Buffalo be 'underrated' or 'underestimated' if everyone in this thread is saying that they are a good team. Wouldn't that mean...they are who we thought they were--now crown their ass!

Classic clip. Wonder how he is after a few brewskies ? Argggg
Buffalo gets often underrated, sometimes for a reason, sometimes not.
Imho the reason they are doing well this year is the leadership department, Numminen and Rivet.
As much as I respect the guy, I'm not going to attribute most of their success to him when they've got the hottest goalscorer & one of the hottest goalies right now. It's kind of like saying the Penguins went to the finals because of the leadership of Roberts.
