Could Montreal have 2 NHL teams? Could the Nords return to QC?

The Toronto rumors of having 2 NHL teams made me think about it. The population is lower than Toronto i know but the Bell Centre is always full...

Maybe a team near downtown like Laval ?

Toronto is tired of the Leafs and the corporte ways in which the team is run.

Montreal and it's surrounding area is in love with their habs and i don't see the need...

Could. Yes.. but both teams would be financially weak.

No, I don't think it would work. You know the old cliche: Montrealers aren't hockey fans, they're Habs fans.

Fan-base wise it definitely could but like someone said, right now is not a good time. Maybe in 2002, but right now the Habs are too popular.

A second MTL team might have some problems getting corporate support. MTL doesnt have as many businesses as TO.

Overall though, I think it would work.

Not a chance it could work like a normal franchise. The CH rules supreme here.

It's not just Toronto that's bigger, It's the surrounding area. there are a lot more people in southern Ontario than in Quebec so no I don't think that Mtl could support 2 teams. Your TV viewing audience is more important than filling the stands $$ wise

Montreal should not have another team. Quebec City or nothing.

Who in their right mind would switch from Habs fan to this new team?
Who would switch from oldest franchise in sport to this new team?

Just like TO, I think it'd be stupid.

Bahahahaha a team in Laval. Tell me, where would this second Montreal team play? There really is nowhere in this city for another team, never mind the fact that nobody would stop rooting for the Habs, they're just too good right now. Like said earlier, the only other place for hockey in Quebec is in Quebec City.
Anyways, Toronto should not and will not have a second team, if anything it'll go to a place like Hamilton. I just couldn't imagine the nightmare of having to house two hockey teams and an NBA team in one arena. I know they do it at the Staples Center but that's two basketball teams and 1 NHL team.

The corporate support is too small for two healthy teams.

2nd teams in Toronto > 2nd team in Montreal > 1st team in Nashville

Most definitely not. A few years ago the Habs had financial problems being the only team in town. Montreal for a relatively large city is not that rich.

we could put another team in Longueuil or Laval, then we could have a rivalry 514 against 450. Just like we did when the Nordiques were around.

The only way I see we can have a second team, is if the population in Mtl and the surrounding increases, by like twice the amount. Cause otherwise I only see one and only one team here due to fanbase and how popular and loved they are.

Let's put away the fact that a team BRINGS money and doesn't COST money and you might be right.

That said, it wont and shouldn't happen.

The hardcore fans' hatred for the second team would make the Habs - Nordiques rivalry look like a love-in. If the two teams ever faced each other in the playoffs, the city would burn.

The players would fight when they meet in the streets. Make sweet love to each others wife, do prank calls on each others.

Good point. I can't imagine how it would be if both teams met in the playoffs. Nucular is my guess.
