So no, in no way would it even come close to the Qc-Mtl rivalry.

Exactly. At one time Montreal was the corporate centre of Canada and was the largest city. Witjh corporate paranoia over the PQ toronto now is third only to New York and Mexico city in North America. in North America

I don't think Montreal could afford two franchises... sure, both might be able to sell tickets, but think about the corporate support and the harm it would cause to our beloved Habs...

But this team could have a mascot that could compete with Youppi......

Whatever team would be added in Montreal would struggle immensely...

Ottawa has had a team for 15 or so years and still has a ton of Montreal fans around the area.. I do not see it..

I hate cities with multiple feels.. it takes away from the City-State type thing that sports have going like Athens-Sparta was long ago which is why sports rule... "My city is better then your city" type thing..

I don't think it would work.... Although the Habs were "Les Habitants" ... what makes the Habs so unique is what both communities bring to this organization.

totally agree, and like some posters already mentionned, putting aside the financial problems, i don't think enough people would switch from being habs fans to another team. Even people in Quebec City wouldn't root for that new team because they would be pissed about montreal getting a second team before Québec gets a franchise back.
In Toronto, the timing would be good for a second team, considering that their actual franchise is in a long-term developpement mode. That is why the idea of Hamilton is so logical for the next years.

Nop. The fan support wouldn't be big enough. Most people that love hockey in this city love the Habs too much to go watch another team. The team is the best it has been in years and this city is really buzzing over the Habs. I think another team would fail. That said, if they would want to bring a team back to Quebec city (if corporate support and a better arena is in place) then it would flourish. But for the moment, neither market would be able to support a team (or a second one for montreal)

I can see an NHL team in laval. That would actually be funny, Laval being known by hockey fans all over North America. It is bigger, than Quebec city, is it not?

In terms of population within city limits, I believe it is. But really, it's just a continuation of Montreal. It doesn't have the economy to support an NHL team.

Remember when the dollar was around 65 cents US and people said Toronto and maybe Montreal were the only viable NHL franchises?

Remember when the dollar was even with the US dollar and suddenly, the NHL was flush with money?

Guess which way it's headed now?

Montreal might do OK with two teams, but it would surely hurt Ottawa.

I say we put a team in Gatineau just to mess with those Sens.

I would do another Quebec city franchise way before another Montreal franchise. I miss the hell out of that old rivalry. Bring back them damn Nords.

In term of territory, it would be La Tuque, Senneterre and Rouyn-Noranda. However, in term of population, it would be Montreal, Quebec and Laval.

I really don't agree. ppl in here like the habs because they were a symbol of winning and of great players. Bring a team to Laval and let that team have a crosby, ovy, malkin type of player ( especially if he is french ) and let them get to the finals and come and see me afterwards.

The only problem is the lack of businesses in here. If we had more HQ and a normal economy, MTL region would have more population and more money in general

I totally agree. Hockey is already big in the province of Quebec, could you imagine with another team at Quebec?
