Im thinking looking towards to the future

C. Price (G)
M. Komisarek (D)
A. Markov (D)
A. Tanguay (L)
S. Kostitsyn (R)
A. Kostitsyn (R)
C. Higgins (L)
T. Plekanec (C)
R. McDonagh (D)
M. Pacioretty (L)

I know its a bit harsh to leave out guys like Kovy, Koivu, Hamerlik and Latty, but going towards the next few years I thought this would be a great team for the future.

Thoughts???

Why 10?? the number seems so arbitrary.... I mean we have a 23 man roster... 20 guys dressed every game... 50 players under contract (not including numerous unsigned draft picks) etc...

to me 10 is a number where i have to cut guys who will still be part of this team's future.

Edit: I guess i didn't explain myself properly... I want to know what are you looking for with this 10 number... do you want us to pick 2 full lines (lw - c - rw)... 3D and a goalie... or are you looking for something else?? any ten players?? etc...

Before i answer I just wanted to know what you are looking for with the number 10 being chosen...

I think that 15 should be more appropriate

I dont know, it was a number I just came up with. Anything more seems to lose the point of the question at hand, or so I thought.

I was thinking the same thing. I think you either have 6 or 15. The top 6 are your "first line" players, the pure CORE of your team, that may go to All-Star Games, represent their countries etc. Perhaps they will one day be in the Hall of Fame, though it would be really good luck if all 6 filled that potential.

At 15, I would look to build 9 forwards, 5 defencemen and 1 goaltender. The balance of the team can be interchangeable parts, role players, etc., to be determined later.

Personally, I think one or both of Koivu and Kovalev will be a significant part of this team for a few more years, but I will play along with the spirit of the OP's message and assume we are looking to the NEXT group of core players, so I will not include them. By definition, therefore, I am telling you right now that this means I am looking at least 4-5 years ahead and thus have to project potential for some players. (This means that if his plan works out, Kovalev could be the 4th RW for an additional 10 years until he hits 50.)

The top 6 WITH THE HIGHEST POTENTIAL are the first players listed in their positions. I am aware that for some of them, their best years are probably MORE THAN 4-5 years away, but let's say that by then, it should be obvious that they are the PURE CORE to be building around. The additional players are listed by importance to the team and not necessarily as part of "the second D-pair" or "the third line".

G - Price

RD - Subban..........Komisarek
LD - McDonagh......Markov..........Gorges(swing)

C - Plekanec.........Maxwell..............Chipchura
RW - A. Kostitsyn..S. Kostitsyn........Latendresse
LW - Pacioretty.....Tanguay............Higgins

I think this lineup shows up two weaknesses in our depth charts right now. First, we are missing one high potential RH shooting Centreman, and at least one RW that can shoot RH also. Ideally, I don't want a team where the top 9 forwards all shoot left.

Second and more important, we are missing a franchise centreman, the one with HOF potential. Pleks is the best we got, but I would love to have better and Pleks as #2. I don't think Maxwell's ceiling is high enough to be in that league.

Anyway, I hope my approach make some folks think a bit more about all of this.

Not bad (I cheated a bit on my list... EDIT: added Gorges to my list since I really wouldn't mind seeing him as a Hab for the next 6-7 seasons or more!).

1. Price
2. Markov/Komisarek (I hope we can afford both for the next 5, 6, or 7 seasons)
3. Mcdonagh
4. Pacioretty
5. S. Kostitsyn (I would love to see him as CENTER one day passing to his brother!)
6. A. Kostitsyn (I wouldn't want Andrei without Sergei...)
7. Higgins (like Carbo, I'm tired of rumours involving him!)
8. Chipchura
9. PK Subban
10. Gorges/Maxwell (I'm a huge Gorges fan!)
---------------------------------------------------------

Latendresse??
Tanguay??

Not so sure yet about Latendresse, Tanguay...playoffs will be a good test, imo.
And, no...it's not a french thing since I'm a huge fan of Pominville, Patrice Bergeron, Robidas, Lecavalier, and...Parise!! (Parise?! I know...I just wanted to use the name since it's a French name!! I know he's American).

I think Weber needs to be on any list of future team building.

I'd actually only include players that are presently on the team as regulars for the list and brought the list to 11 as to have 6 forwards, 4 defensemen and 1 goalie. I'd make another list of 10 for the future as we never know how rookies will actually pan out.

C. Price (G)
M. Komisarek (D)
A. Markov (D)
J. Gorges (D)
R. O'Byrne (D)
A. Tanguay (L)
S. Kostitsyn (L/R)
A. Kostitsyn (L/R)
C. Higgins (L)
T. Plekanec (C)
G. Latendresse (L/R)

Future :

R. McDonaugh (D)
PK. Subban (D)
Y. Weber (D)
P. Valentenko (D)
M. Pacioretty (L)
B. Maxwell (C)
K. Chipchura (C)
G. Stewart (L)
M. D'Agostini (R)
M. Turnev (?)

I went based on Potential. Some might question why I put Chipchura in there...I think he'll eventually turn out to be the best 3rd line shutdown center in the league and our captain. You need someone in that forward group who will drop the gloves...

The odd man out in my list would be Tender of MaxPAc, and I didn't want to take any of them out.

Isnt chipchura close to be a bust ? I mean he's at least closer to bust than be in our top10 core?

But I must be wrong so many people have him I'm really surprised.
