It's funny, I think the exact opposite! I thing they would look nicer in a red jersey...and it would also be cool with the white jersey...

He'll obviously wear the pads on the two nights where the Habs wear their retro sweaters, no? Didn't Sabourin wear similar pads for the Winter Classic?

Why weren't they wearing these pads on the first Centennial Jersey Night on Oct 20th against the Panthers? If I'm not mistaken, that was the "retro" 1970-1971 sweater night (although I was at the game and I did not see ANY difference between the regular road jersey and what they were wearing)

It was vintage because back in '70-'71, they wore white jerseys at home, and red at away.

Maybe he's not comfortable with them yet.

Why, did she need to be broken down before she was comfortable and performed well

Here's a wild theory....

Brown pads are gonna be used for a game, likely a vintage jersey one, that's why both goalies practiced with it...

I am pretty sure I saw a pic of Price wearing brown pads at practice once last year as well.

That's nonsense.

Those sweaters were the same sweaters they've worn for every other game this season.

It wasn't just 1970-71 that the Canadiens wore their whites at home. They wore their whites at home for a couple of decades.

They also had totally different numbers - and now white in the trim of the numbers - that year. It was obviously the exact same jerseys their wear every game and in no way looked like a "heritage jersey" or a retro sweater.

So can we stop pretending it was? I've seen a few people say on the telecast or at the game they said it was because the Canadiens wore their whites at home back then. But that's clearly not right. For some reason they didn't wear the sweaters that game that they were supposed to.

but they did wear the jersey they were supposed too.
If you saw the press conferance that announced all the happening of the centennial they presented the 6 jerseys. when they announced the 70-71 jersey, it was Steve Begin that came out with it on and it was the one they wore monday, like you said, exactly the one we wear at every road game.

They didn't want to make an all new jersey, they just wanted to wear white at home just like they did from 1970-71, up to 2003.

But IMO they should stick to red at home, best jersey ever.

That's ridiculous... why wouldn't they just wear an actual jersey that represented the era? Seems strangely lazy, which the organization never is when it comes to stuff like this.

I'm pretty sure that the 70-71' jersey has also been the habs jersey up to 2002-2003(or at least when they changed to the Reebok jerseys). 70-71' is probably the first year they started wearing that specific jersey, and also the year they won one of their stanley cup with Dryden.

So it's the exact same jersey they wore for so many years, but Reebokenized (?)

That's exactly what they had against the Panthers :

The logo might be a little smaller.

I also thought it was weird. I was looking hard for the difference, but it looked just like the current away jersey. Same number outlines and everything. I thought maybe they'd shrunk down the CH, since they made it bigger in about 2002 or something, but even that looked the same.

A few days before the vintage jerseys were unveiled this year, I read on article (dont remember exactly where might have been rds though) that mentioned that Price would wear brown retr-looking pads on vintage jersey nights, and ALL THE PLAYERS would wear vintage brown gloves. The article also mentioned that they will also have vintage socks to match their jerseys, and introduced the possibility of having different pants as well (brown also maybe?)....

can't wait to see it

I dunno, I think if they released a proper 70-71 white jersey that is nearly identical with just a few minor changes, then they could just as easily be accused of trying to make a cash-grab from all those people who just *have* to have everything "collector's" when it hits the market.

I find it kinda refreshing that they went ahead and made the simple gesture, without any real regard for revenue!
