Brent Burns would be a better option. RH shooter, tall, good offensively and defensively.

I would be willing then to give Higgins + O'Byrne + Chipchura for him.

Brent Burns would be an untouchable if I was Lemaire and Co. Unless you overpay, I really don't see the Wild trading him.

I'm not even sure...if you haven't seen him play, i suggest you watch some matches of the wild. He's that good.

I know I wouldn't. Why would you get rid of what Timmins likes to call the new breed of defenceman? Burns have the potential to be amongst the top 5 d-men in the league as far as his complete game is concerned. Something I think Timmins think Subban and McDonagh could also develop into. So again, they are so tough to find, why would you trade them? For a 25-goal scorer and a great prospect? Tempting but definately not enough for me. Though I'M not the Wild GM so they can do whatever they can.....

I think that all those d-men that we have in the system, if they all developed according to plan, are serving 2 purposes. Keeping the best amongst them for ourselves, getting "rid" of the others to fill the blanks. I would be really surprised to see all the potential top-3 guys leaving so we'd be stick with all the #4-#6 potential d-men....

For Burns I'd do it.... Burns is what you hope McDonagh develops into.... he may/may not. Burns is a stud.

I was putting myself in the Wild GM shoes. As a Wild GM, I would't do it. As the Habs one, I'd do it. In my last comment, I was just saying that in general, McDo and Subban would be untouchables while I would most likely trade Valentenko, Carle, Emelin, Weber and others. But it's pretty clear that if you trade McDo and get a Burns back, well clearly you don't lose and can only gain from it if McDo doesn't develop 'cause there is a chance that McDo doesn't develop the offensive side of his game.

And on top of the size, offensive and defensive skill, the kid has HEART.

He stands up for his teammates and is an all around player/teamplayer.

I would kill to get Burns on Hammer's pairing... alas... untouchable.

I would take Gaborik just for the fact that other eastern conference teams won't improve. I would hate to see Gaborik traded to the Sens, Bruins or Flyers ( or any other legit eastern conference team).

Awards:
****ing idiots on NHL Live. Discussing the Higgins-for-Gaborik rumor:

-I gotta take a look but I don't think Higgins has played at all this year. I know he's been a healthy scratch for a couple of games...
-Really?
-Yeah

And then later:

-Okay it looks like Higgins actually tweaked his groin in the preseason [now trying to save face] but he's been a bit of an enigma for them...he's been streaky...and obviously you're not going to get Gaborik for just Higgins...

Where do they come up with this crap? Shouldn't you have to know stuff about the league and its players to host a show called NHL Live?

"Unfortunately, Marian has been absorbing a character assassination on the premise of misinformation that has circulated like gospel," Salcer said. "The offers that have been thrown at the wall of 10 years, $85 million, $90 million and $100 million are wrong, as are what I now hear -- seven years, $70 million and eight years, $80 million. They're also wrong.

God forbid he plays 1-2 games against us during the year and sits out due to injuries for the others

Funny how quick Burns rose to "stud status". Just a few yrs ago he was playing forward and not really sure what he should be (so it seemed). He was a bit like Streit.

also I think the next one to rise to stud status is Duncan Keith. Also Shea Weber is getting there.

You know what I'd love to see?

Florida trades JayBo to the Wild for Gaborik.

Two UFA's, switch sides, sign contracts.

Don't ask me if it makes sense. I'm just saying. It kills two birds with one stone.

He may not become a stud, but the most overlooked defenceman in the NHL is Nashville's Greg Zanon. 160 hits, 176 blocks, makes under a million, just hitting his defensive prime. If there was a guy I'd replace Bouillon with, in a heartbeat, it'd be Zanon.

I' m starting to think JayBo my be tempted to resign with the cats. They are solid so far defensively and are showing promise for the years to come. Martin was very smart so far as a GM.

Apparently Gainey was never interested in Gaborik because of his injuries.
http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/262184.html

Lavoie then goes on to mention the Habs should be interested in Havlat, makes sense.

Gainey is not and was never interested by Gaborik:

Source Renaud Lavoie, RDS

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/262184.html

Translated text:

"At a press conference following a meeting of the general managers in Chicago Bob Gainey stated that he was never interested in Marian Gaborik of the Wild"

How can Bob be more clear than that?

Gaborik is not coming to Montréal period (Mandala 5 or M5)

Moreover, the journalist adds from an unnamed source that Gaborik in injured in the groin and must take a break every 25-30 days because of the intense pain. This information apparently explains why other teams have shown little interest in Gaborik, at least for now.
