Should be an interesting one tonight, as it has been historically...
For whatever reason, the Blue Jackets and Rangers have tended to play memorable games. From the Rangers' challenging the curve on Espen Knutsen's stick to negate a Blue Jackets' power play in 2001, to the three-on-three line brawl at the end of regulation in 2002, to Jody Shelley reaching over the bench to pull Ronald Petrovicky off Ray Whitney in 2003, to the Blue Jackets scoring two short-handed goals to win in the Garden two seasons ago. Crazy, fun stuff. I wouldn't be surprised by something similar tonight.
Jackets are undefeated at home. Their last game was on Tuesday, so both teams should be well rested. Honestly, they haven't looked very good so far this season, I'd give them a C+. The defensemen aren't playing as a unit yet. The team as a whole has seemed very schizophrenic, and yet they're sitting at a 3-3 record.
Getting Peca back, and having Malhotra back (his first game was on Tuesday) should really stablize the 3rd and 4th lines. The Chimera - Brassard - Voracek line has been lighting it up so far (the goat line - as named by Chimera - 2 kids and an old goat). Nash - Umberger - Huselius has been doing well so far too, but Umberger seems a bit invisible at times.
Their defensive play has left something to be desired. I wonder how much of that was due to Peca and Malhotra being missing. They are two of our best defensive forwards and are both very good faceoff guys.
"It's gonna be fun, I've never been traded in my professional career. I've been traded in my Junior career, and went back to play my old team in Junior, and the first time I touched the puck I got boo'd. It just makes it that much better, it's makes you remember that. And I'll enjoy it."
It doesn't seem hes in the hot seat, I think Prucha is out of the job in NY and is replaced with Fritsche.
