OT - Lucian Bute (22-0-0) vs. Librado Andrade (27-1-0) - IBF Super Middleweight Bout

Friday at midnight, Lucian Bute (22-0-0 [18]) will be making his second title defense against his mandatory challenger Librado Andrade (27-1-0).

Should be a great fight. Andrade is a warrior, always ready to fight even when overmatched. His only loss was a shutout against Mikkel Kessler, but even with the result of that fight he was acclaimed for a valiant display of courage and an amazing chin.

Bute is the heavy favourite, but it's the biggest challenge of his career and he is fighting his second real dangerous opposition, with Sakio Bika being the other big name on his resume. If Bute moves and doesn't let Andrade turn this into a war, he will be at an advantage. I predict a wide Bute decision after a slow adjustment to start the fight by the champion.

Oh, and I can already hear the people saying Bute will suffer the same treatment as Alcine and all those over-hyped Canadian fighters. To those I say that I respect your opinion, but I'm afraid you are going to be proven wrong. As far as Canadian fighters suffering losses in World Championship fights, I think you may have to turn yourself to Jean Pascal whom I'm afraid is going to get brought back to earth by the hard punching Carl Froch in December.

Bute will win because of his speed.

Good test for Bute. Andrade is a volume puncher with decent power and is as relentless as they come. Not the most graceful fighter but makes up for it with sheer guts and determination. Kinda reminds me of a watered down Antonio Margarito. Bute better come in shape or he's in a for a long night.

That's the logical outcome, but Andrade is tough as hell and might be able to get inside and force Bute to trade, if that happens, we'll see what Bute is really made of. Personnally, I think he'll win but it won't be easy. Kessler is the man to beat at 168.

Got 2 tix for the bout tonight! Hopefully, he'll do better than Alcine last summer. It was bad seeing Alcine getting nailed live and the whole crowd leaving the buiding right after he got KO'd. I remember him doing an interview at the centre of the ring with almost 90% of the crowd already gone.

Andrade survived Kessler. I call Bute by decision, but I'm really worried.

if Bute loses this one, which I doubt, then it means he's not of the same ilk as Kessler and the other top cronies. But I doubt it. Unless Andrade gets a lucky shot, I see Bute winning easily. Don't get carried away by the media frenzy. Bute is faster, stronger, intelligent as they come. And it top shape. He should win this by an easy decision or even a TKO in the 10-11-12th round range.

I have seen all the recent Bute fights. Unless he starts slowly (which he sometimes has the tendency to do so), he will have taken over the fight in the early part. He's got great power. The only doubt I have is about starting strong. Against Berrio, he started slowly, a bit tentative, nervous. He will have to take command of the ring earlier on.

Survived is the right word. He got killed by the Danish. And, according to Bute's team, the Montrealer is close to Kessler in form. So, unless the other guy gets lucky or Bute gets tentative, the outcome should be obvious.

Wishing him all the best. Is this on TV anywhere?

Anyway, let's not be too confident, we need some good news in our boxing realm to get to the next level (Philadelphia in the 80s-90s). We are not there but we are in very good shape in Montreal.

I also think that Lucian will start faster than against Berrio because that was his first fight at this level.

I know some of you guys watch games at Chez Serge. Any idea if they're gonna be showing this? Would be cool since I left close by. I hate La Cage au Sports.
