That high on Nodl? Or Barker is a bust? Why not? Replace Alberts with Barker. I think you are very wrong on this one. Flyers would not be giving up a lot in this one.

From what I remember Barker was in 2005 and 2006 WJC. Kid has nothing but potential, heavy point shot, physical, not a bad skater but needs to improve it. He is no Seabrook. This is Zhitnik Coburn type of deal imo. Worth a shot and a much better deal then 1st round pick for Eminger. Barker was dogged by injuries and imo the main reason his development is so slow. I believe he should be in NHL but Hawks signed Huet to that huge contract and they still have Khabibulin. Barker in the AHL due to the Hawks cap issues.

Perfect deal to set up potential Jay-Bo deal in the future.

Sbisa (seems like a keeper), Parent (still waiting on him), Barker (wild card) Eminger (wild card). Bodrov is coming around. Throw in a forward and a pick or a prospect and our blue line rebuilt in 2 years while our forwards can compete with any teams in the league.

In no order: Timonen, Cobrun, Sbisa, Barker, Eminger, Parent, Bodrov, Jones, Marshall
thats deep blue line, with size, physical play, puck moving ability, point shots and skating.

Do you think it's obvious to the other teams that the Flyers need help on defense?

If so, why do you think they'll give us a fair offer for a defenseman?

From the article:

"The Flyers already acquired defenseman Andrew Alberts from the Boston Bruins earlier this month, but the Camden Courier-Post reports that Flyers GM Paul Holmgren is shopping for another quality defenseman"

I do hope Holmgren isn't shopping for "another quality defenseman" like Alberts.

He is buddies with Cannon, he was the one who introduced me to him. I think he is waiting to bust out. If we can get the guy picked right after Malkin and Ovy, lets do it. Thing is we would have to get rid of a dman somehow.

I really really don't want Nödl to leave (for obvious reasons) and I don't think Holmgren is shopping for a D-man that swims between AHL and NHL.

I'm not sure, especially with Brière out.

Yeah I dont think we trade Nodl right now with Briere out.

Gagne-Metropolit-Knuble
Hartnell-Richards-Lupul
Upshall-Carter-Nodl

Although

Timonen-Coburn
Vaananen-Barker
Jones-Parent
Eminger

Looks pretty good.

Would you do it? Take a chance. Yes or no? Think long term one month from now.

I second that very much...

And you got to assume that Beauchemin, while a solid NHL player, has been playin mostly with Niedy... I guess it helps a lot... Whenever you are in troubles, you give him the puck and thats it...

I liked your "starting goaltender mindset" point DeepOrange, however :

When you say that the most important factor when looking for a starting goalie isnt pure talent but mental stability, if by pure talent you mean reactivity, flexibility, agility, in fact physical abilities and by mental stability the ability to bounce back after a bad goal or stay effective during long stretches then i cant disagree. But you forgot to mention something, which is IMO at least as important as the "starting goaltender mindset", its just the style...
A sound positional G, whos gonna be in good position on every shot, controling most of the rebounds and making saves look easy, wont look as spectacular and hardworking as a "scramble style" goaltender but is far more reliable and then a huge benefit for a team; especially those with a struggling or experience lacking group of Dmen...

The "scramble style" might help you gain momentums some times with highlight reel saves, like Boucher, Budaj or Aebisher to quote the one you named, can do from time to time... But will give up more weak goals...

The "positionnal style" is gonna help you keep control of games. It allowes your D to focus on their own positionning, let the play come to them, be relaxed; Proving your defensman that when it gets tougher defensively, their goalie is gonna make the first and unique save, thats what this is all about...

I would do the Nodl for Barker deal in a second. Like I said in the Noodle thread, I think he was called up so that other teams could see him, and that he would be used as trade bait. Barker would be a GREAT return for Nodl, and he still has loads of potential. Could end up being better than Coburn IMO.

I say do the deal as quickly as possible, and get either Downie or Giroux up.

According to Philadelphia sources, the Flyers are shopping forward Andreas Nodl. The Flyers have been looking for a defenseman, and there are rumors that there were scouts looking at Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Cam Barker, who is currently playing in the AHL.

I'd move Downie right now before Nodl. Nodl has shown just about everything you can possibly show so far without putting up points.

Barker has very good potential and he's still very young so he's CERTAINLY not a bust. BUT he is still a question mark just like Eminger, Parent, and Sbisa as far as reliability goes and I don't thin adding another question mark helps our situation.

I like Barker a lot. Not sure why he can`t find a spot on the roster, I think he is at least a 4 or 5 in the NHL.

I like Barker, but he's not exactly what this team needs right now. He's another Eminger, and while both of them could turn into top 4 defensemen, if we are going to bother moving a very good piece in Nodl (who, until 3 days ago was constantly overlooked by just about everyone) then we should do it in a package to get more of sure thing.

I still think Lupul makes the most sense. He's got good value, and his contract would allow us to add someone who is making a buck.

a part of this rumor that does make me curious and a little bit more willing are the names Corey Crawford and Antti Niemi.
