Jordan Leopold might be an interesting option. He's a pretty skilled player who has had some injury troubles. I really liked him in Calgary.

Boucher, Aucoin and Schneider will also be out there but are all quite old. They're all probably more triggermen rather than puckmovers at this stage.

Only if the guy is a similar age and has a few years left on his contract though hopefully. He's the most appealing asset the team has, if you're going to trade him you better make it count.

I love Leopold. He's been great for Colorado so far this year (I think he's their best defenseman, but Granato disagrees). If he can stay healthy, he'll be a valuable guy on the market next year. I don't know what the Avs have planned for him beyond this year, but I imagine they might want to get Cumiskey into the NHL next season.

In regards to trading Vermette, I was more or less talking about exactly the type of player you mentioned. Kevin Bieksa is the obvious choice, as he's still young and is locked up for a few more years. Cam Barker might be considered a legit option, but he's still unproven at this level, although he finished the year off nicely last season.

It's true. Ignoring Vermette's entire career and focusing only on the last 30 or so games of last season really puts things into perspective. Fisher's played 2 whole games with talented wingers... and come up empty-handed! It's about time to give Vermette a chance! He scored 53 points last year splitting time between 3rd pairing dman and back-up goalie... imagine what he could do as our first line C!

I don't think the team has hit rock bottom yet.

That's when the improvement will start to kick in IMHO.

The fact that we're losing one-goal games after putting up a period or half of period of work isn't enough.

The Sabres might be able to humiliate us. They're playing a very reponsible defensive game and they've got more firepower than the Leafs.

I think we're close to rock bottom though. We need to be humiliated in every way (including the scoreboard) before this team can really realize they've gotta be better. Once that happens, our work effort should improve, as should our confidence.

This team working hard is definitely good enough to make the playoffs.

Oh yeah, it's a huge problem. They have shown signs of it this year, which makes the situations when they don't so much more frustrating, and I've got faith they'll be able to put up a consistent effort. It may just take a tiny bit.

We've done it against them before, I think it was 2 or 3 years ago when we were on a 4 game losing streak early in the season people were saying that it was a make or break game against the Sabres and we won it. Don't lose hope yet Sens fans!

Honestly, what happened between Sweden and coming back to Canada? I liked what I saw in Sweden. They were working, clicking, hitting, it was fun to watch. What happened to that?

We played a Pens team that was struggling without its top two offensive d-men.

We still took a lot of penalties.

The fact that they were 0-15 or 1-16 or something on the PP says something about that.

Besides, a game where we're always on special teams actually is of benefit to us because it's our even-strength play that is so awful.

Struggling team or not, there were still a lot of positives in those games. They were at least working.

Just in case nobody saw my post in the GDT Reservations thread, I ended up having to work today and will have no time to make the GDT for tomorrow night's Sabres game. If anyone can step in and put one up, I'd really appreciate it.
