My Ottawa Moves

Here it goes....in my ideal world

Trade De vries and Smolinski away for nothing if possible, and Dont Sign Hasek

Trade Havlat and Emery for Parrish, Dipietro and Hunter

(I have a feeling that both Ott and NYI fans will burn me for this one)

Sign Ricci and Zhitnik - this will probably cost about 7-8M (Made possible by trading De vries, Smolinski and not getting Hasek)

New Lines:

Parrish - Spezza - Hossa
Vermette - Fisher - Alfredsson
Varada - Ricci - Hunter
Schaefer - White - Neil

Redden - Zhitnik
Chara - Phillips
Volchenkov - Pothier

Dipietro
Prusek

Flame away!!!!

....and be kind

Probably got a better chance of stripping Blackburn or Lundqvist from NYR than we do getting Ricky D from the Isle. Zhitnik would be an excellent signing if the price were right (say like, ~$3-4 mil), and so would Ricci. I like the Vermette - Fisher - Alfie line.

I'd like to keep Havlat and Emery, though. I would only accept trading them if it could land us a dominating top line centre (ala Sakic, Thornton, Modano, etc.)

What I would do is hope to hell that the Ducks want to get rid of Fedorov's salary so bad that they give him up for sticks n stones (draft picks & prospects). Then, I'd sign Zhitnik, Hasek, and Weimer. Trade Todd White for Vlad Orszagh. Trade Smokes for whatever we could get for him.

Schaefer - Fedorov - Alfredsson
Orszagh - Spezza - Hossa
Vermette - Fisher - Havlat
Varada - Weimer - Neil

Redden - Zhitnik
Chara - Phillips
Volchenkov - de Vries

Hasek
Prusek

Now that's how you shake up a team, lol

sign Conroy,Hill and Hasek and then trade White for a draft pick then re-sign Havlat,Schaefer,Prusek,Chara,Varada,Phillips and Pothier

Mike Fisher-Jason Spezza-Marian Hossa
Peter Schaefer-Bryan Smolinski-Peter Bondra
Vaclav Varada-Antoine Vermette-Chris Neil
Chris Kelly-Serge Payer-Josh Langfeld

Wade Redden-Sean Hill
Zdeno Chara-Chris Phillips
Greg de Vries-Anton Volchenkov
Brian Pothier

Dominik Hasek
Martin Prusek
Ray Emery

I like the above lines. The first poster's team would have a tough time getting past the 1st round...heck, even a playoff spot these days. Havlat is worth both Dipietro and Parrish imo, and I wouldn't give up Emery for Hunter...who I don't think will have the same success next year.

We don't need to trade Havlat...if you get rid of him you notice a big scoring hole.

No way is Havlat worth both Rick D and Parrish....parrish is a gritty forward than can get 30-30, and Rick D is a potential franchise goalie, who at worst case will be a very good #1. Anyway, I think those moves are great...I would hate to see OTT lose Havlat, but I think they need the grit parrish and hunter bring...and Dipietro is ready to be a #1. However, I also think it is unlikely that OTT will get BOTH Zhitnik and Ricci, maybe one of them

That was one season. He's an glorified grinder. Havlat is worth way more than just Parrish so I dont think its that far fetched maybe the sens would add high draft pick.

I would welcome Bondra but at $2.5M per year.

Hey advocate, why would you want to get rid of Havlat? He is one of the best players on our team, and that deal doesnt do justice.

I agree with you on de Vries.

Nothing against de Vries, he's a good defenseman but he's scheduled to make $3.1M next season. If that big fat salary is what's keeping the Sens from re-signing Lescyschun at about 1M or signing Zhitnik at about 2.5M, the Sens defense will be lesser for it.

Zhitnik isn't going to accept $2.5M. He already turned down a 4-year $16M offer from the Sabres. His agent feels he is the cream of the crop among defenseman...

I would pay Zhits $3m. $4m maybe... but anything more is ridiculous. Mark Gandler is an idiot. I know he is just doing his job, but I guarantee Bobby Orr won't ask for ridiculous amounts like that when it comes time for Spezza to sign a new deal.

Guarantee? Wow, what gives you the impression that Bobby Orr would ask for something reasonable? He wouldn't be doing his job if he does...

Although, I'm not anxious to "burn you" for a harmless trade proposal, I do think it was grossly unrealistic. Havlat is one of the best offensive players of his generation, but Dipietro is the only real untouchable on the Isles roster. The only other player on the roster who approaches that label, would be Hunter. So, you've taken them both in the deal, and added Parrish to boot. Basically, you traded two 25 - 30 goal guys for one 30 - 35 goal scorer, and added a serious downgrade in goal. You've deleted goals, and removed the Isles best young player.

I'm willing to bet that he Isles would not trade Dipietro straight up for Havlat and Emery, let alone throw in Hunter and Parrish. We could debate the market values of the various players, but that would be pointless (because fans from different teams will always value their own players particularly high). Emery is not ready to be a number 1, and the Isles have got a lot riding on Dipietro's development.

Have fun with the proposals, and I appreciate the effort, but no way does anything remotely like this happen. Ottawa has no real chance of getting either Dipietro or Hunter, and a major deal between these two conference rivals is very unlikely under any circumstance.

Parrish has been over 20 goals every season of his career except one and had 24 in 59 games last year. He had something like .40 goals per game, to Havlat's .45 last year. If you "project" them both to 82 games (which is always a leap, I admit) Parrish would have had 33 goals, and Havlat 37.

I'm not saying that Parrish has close to Havlat's offensive upside (I expect Havlat to be a top 10 scorer in a year or two) but he is hardly a "glorified grinder."

You'd be willing to bet on the actions of "Mad" Mike Milbury?
