Doubt it. He seems to be struggling enough just at the AHL level.

I just spoke to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren and he told me that Danny Briere's abdominal surgery went "really well."

Here's the twist. Briere, it turns out, had TWO, small tears in his abdominal cavity, and not one, as the MRI showed this week. It was orignally believed Briere had just one tear on his left side.

Specialist William Meyers performed the surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital. When he cut Briere, he saw tears on both sides.

Holmgren said the original prognosis stands: Briere is expected to miss between 3-4 weeks.

For more, see my story on CSNPhilly.com.

It's a different game in the AHL and the NHL

From Tim P.:

Seems like good news...

Quote:
http://philadelphia.comcastsportsnet.com/pages/landing_flyers/?Panaccio-Briere-Making-Progress-After-Su=1&blockID=16518&feedID=695"

Danny Briere was walking around Monday morning at the Spectrum as the Flyers held picture day for the Flyers’ Wives Carnival magazine.

“I can’t believe how good I feel just two days after [abdominal] surgery,” Briere told CSNPhilly.com at the rink.

He said he’s confident he’ll be back on the ice in three or four weeks, as planned.

Briere was stunned at the news last week that he would need surgery when the prevailing opinion was his injury was a mild, strained groin.

“We wanted to play it safe, hope that I got back on the ice over the weekend,” he said, referring to missing a practice last week. “The next thing I know Dr. Meyers said, ‘We can do surgery tomorrow morning.’ And I said, ‘Whoa, let me think about that.’

“I didn’t think it would happen that quick. We didn’t waste any time.”

William Meyers performed surgery this past Saturday at Hahnemann University Hospital. Meyers, an abdominal specialist, found two small tears in Briere’s abdomen. Like Eagles receiver Kevin Curtis, this is a sports hernia. Curtis’ injury, however, was more severe, which is why his down time was projected to be longer than Briere’s.

Yeah. If I remember correctly, you were at one of the games. In Buffalo, early February of 2006.

I wish he'd get healthy so I'd want him back. I think the dream is over though.

Did you post under another name? You registered in September 2006...hence my confusion.

I did, and recieved a one year ban. I wasn't around for parts of 2005/06. Then I was let back in and asked to change my username and keep a clean profile. So far so good.

Sorry to confuse you Storm...I mean Dig.

Three times for me. Although I did get to see him in the pre-game skate once. So technically, I can say I saw Forsberg skate with the Flyers.

Glad to hear that Danny is doing so well. I hope his speedy recovery continues.
