Edmonton native Ference talks about coming home

Bruins fan here with some comments that Ference made about Alberta fans that I thought you might like:

'Ference notched his fourth assist of the season when he combined with defenseman Dennis Wideman on Lucics second goal vs. the Thrashers. Like Lucic, Ference is anxious to perform in his hometown against the Oilers. Hes also looking forward to clashing with the few remaining friends he has on the Flames.

Im really excited, I get to play in front of a lot of family and friends and get to play against some familiar foes and some old teammates, Ference said. Its going to be fun, its a fun road trip whether you have played in Alberta before or (you are) from there.

Based on his experiences ascending the ranks to the NHL, Ference believes there is a different hockey culture in the vast expanse of western Canada than he has seen in the eastern provinces and in the Northeast here. Ference thinks the Bruins newcomers are in for a treat playing in the Canadian outback.

Im excited for the young guys who have never played there before, he said. Thats about as pure hockey as you are going to get. The western Canadian fans love the sport. They are not as cynical as some of the Eastern fans. They just really love their teams, love their sport and get excited. Its a great place to play and a lot of fun.

Here's the complete article, Cheers!

What? Computers? I telegraph my neighbors in Toronto and they post what I tell them too. I can't wait until next summer when we can put away the dog sleds and bring out the wagons!

I heard Calgary is finally getting a phone line installed. Just in time too, as the railroad just came into town.

Its ironic that the OP is from Austrailia.

Still a nice article, cant imagine Ference being a self centered guy.

Ference is an Edmonton native who is excited to play back home...I found it particularly interesting to see him call out Eastern conference fans, and praise his Alberta natives in the Boston paper.

Are you looking forward to snow so you can build your igloo too? I've always enjoyed the annual building of the igloo myself.

My brother in law is a Calgary fan and said that Ference used to post regularly on Calgary Puck and seemed like a good guy. I remember reading his "just got traded to Boston" thread. Good stuff.

Because Australia doesn't have electricity?

I know my computer is being run by 4 wombats in a wheel, but I was hoping I was the exception to the rule....

Well, hopefully (for us) he gets overly excited and makes some big defensive gaffe's.

I do like the guy, though; very good personality.

I was pretty good friends with Andrew's sister in HS and into university (ahem: he's a Sherwood Park native). Don't know him directly, but he always seemed to have his head on straight. A good quote for the journos, and I also respect him for fronting the NHL's climate change initiative.

raced him up a dirt mountain road in Canmore when his sister was leading my class in a leadership getaway. He is effing fit. Really cool guy too.

IT hurt me deeply when he was traded to Calgary and his sister became a flames fan.

Probably a kangaroo distracted you, since it had an advertisement for the local Yahoo Serious film festival hanging around its neck.

Really? Where is it? 'The outback' isn't a specific place. It's pretty much anywhere not on the east coast.

Sorry, the dingo stopped running on the wheel and I ran out of power here on my 386.

Ference looked pretty good last night, but the show was all Roloson...I thought you guys had a goalie problem?

That was the Roloson that I think a lot of Oiler fans miss. Good game.

Cheers!

Ference is awesome. I really respect him as a personality and as an environmental activist. Perhaps we could bring him to Edmonton when his contract expires as a #5-6 Dman.

ference is as humble and down to earth a guy as you'll ever meet. i've known him for a long time and was his best man. he's been very very good to me over the years, even when it would have been easy to forget about friends from his past.

on 2 separate occasions when i went overseas traveling he's given me cash money and said to have fun with it. he's even helped my wife find employment.

the best part is now we both have an undying hatred for the flames.

will see him tonight as he hooked me up with canucks tickets.
