Every game is worth 3 points, one for each period won, if a period ends tied the point carries over to the next period.
If at the end of the game it was still tied their would be a goalie fight to determine the winner. Teams would be allowed to dress a third goalie specifically for this role and they wouldn't count against the cap.
This could allow the league tons of marketing possibilities with teams bringing in celebrity enforcer goalies like UFC fighters, Boxers and Carol Channing.
In all seriousness this could work for some sort of crazy espn 8 thing. Kinda like Slamball for hockey. We just need some like jet things that propel people at super speed and we are golden. Would make for some huge hits.
Wow, Slamball! I totally forgot about that amazing "sport"! I think we should introduce this during the all-star game!
Now this thread is becoming too silly. Anyway, to the OP, hope you aren't serious, because you're 'idea' isn't going to work. It gets rid of wraparounds and any step-ups from behind, so saying it'll increase scoring is a bit doubtful. Anything, 30 teams aren't going to restructure the ice surface like this. And that might be just be the tip of the iceberg.
How about we make the field descent about 0.25° from the blue line towards the goal and it is harder to clear the puck and the puck slides toward the goal even when nobody touches it.
Here's a good idea: Don't **** with the game.
I was thinking the same thing expect on powerplays the now mechanized ice tilts towards the defending team's net. At various intervals, the rink will tilt toward one goal or the other. It will also make the game (uncontrollably) faster.
