This team has too much high level talent but not enough elite players. That can create a problem on the power play when you have a bunch of evenly skilled players but no super good finishers, maybe besides Kovalev.
Watcha' talkin' about?
Tanguay is elite, Kovalev is elite, Markov is elite and Kosty senior has elite finishing potential.
i realise we're 6-1-1...it doesnt mean the PP has not taken a nose dive...which is the point of this thread.

If your going to aim for the Cup you have to want/try to succeed in every facet of the game

now is the time to get these things right (now as in the regular season). you cant wait until the playoffs to do some experimenting. some of you will say its still early...well 10% of the season is nearly over already. as for playing 1 period a game...i agree with you. I don't want my habs to be the next Senators. One of the biggest problems with the sens is they got into the bad habit of relying on their talent...come playoff time that isn't good enough. you want players to learn good habits now and keep them all season long
being 6-1-1 is more of a reason to want to try a few new things while things are going well. you are more likely to be able to get away with it without affecting your winning...

Tanguay is really as much of a playmaker as goal scorer. Markov? Ditto. A. Kostitsyn might end up as a finisher, not sure yet. Lots of good playmakers but no great finishers beyond Kovalev. Still, this PP should really be top ten.
I'm not worried. The team is getting chances, they just need to finish them at a better rate and they will. Having said that, the law of averages would say that the habs cannot be #1 for 3 years in a row, even if they look better on paper... but at the end of the day, I still think this will be a top 5 PP unit at the end of the season in terms of efficiency.
Let them find their rhythm. Carbo has too many options for now, it looks like new PP units every game.
When you have Kovalev-S.Kost-A.Kost-Koivu-Lats-Tanguay-Plek-Lang-Higgins-Markov-Hamrlik-Breezer(when he plays)...that's a lot of people for a little 2min.
A lot of talented creative skillful players, they all want to make nice plays, it's in their nature. So it's normal for them to take some time to all get along.
The good thing is that they do create some plays, and sometimes its just phenomenal to watch how they distribute the puck to one another. Eventually it'll unload but there's no reason to address it as a problem as of today.
