we've got a dominant record against the oilers in the past couple of seasons, but i think that ends tonight, especially with Pekka in goal.

4-2 Oilers.

The Oilers are averaging just over two goals a game, so if they somehow get four tonight, our forwards need to do some MAJOR work on defense.

Kings, Blues, Stars have all made mince meat of our forwards on defense thus far

I'm in an optimistic mood tonight. Pekka with a 27 save 2 goals against effort - Preds win 5-2.

We look terrible. We have passed it to a guy that has line changed 3 times already in the first 5 minutes of the game. Our bottom lines look absolutely worthless on the ice....Ugh!

Nice tip by Hornqvist. It would be nice to see him hit 20 this year.

Not surprised at the penalty, but it was still a little lame, Rinne got his mitt caught on the other guy a bit and it looked as if he was trying to drag him down. He was really just sticking his arm out to protect his own turf.

They sure had a lot of slapshots on that pp without us ever being able to get hold of it and clear. I figured one of them would finally get past. Rinne was playing those shots well but the one had so much power on it and he couldn't corral it.

Solid win. Hamhuis and Weber in particular stood out to me tonight. Devries looked horrible, and I saw 2-3 instances alone where Hamhuis had to make huge defensive plays to cover for him.

Another odd night of Trotzonian TOI -

Some noteables:
Arnott - 16:38
Nichol - 14:17
Smithson - 15:49
Ward - 15:37

Jones - 12:17
Hornqvist - 13:21

The Predators only took 3 penalties tonight, and two of them led to a 5 on 3. We also had 3 powerplays. In other words, there were no specialty team reasons to see Smithson/Nichol/Ward get such elevated minutes......Odd to say the least. Why Trotz thinks Arnott/Dumont/Erat/Legwand should only get 15-16 minutes a night with our weak offense is mind-boggling.....

First of all let me say....um are you sure there weren't four or five time Hamhuis was hung out to dry by his partner?????

Second, I don't have a problem with the top line seeing no time in the waning minutes of a game that we are leading. Arnott and Dumont give up way tooooo many goals for my liking. The more I watch those two the more I think we may need to break them up if we want to pull above 500.

Third, that is the Pekka we want....if he keeps playing like that he will be the starter by the end of the season for sure. I mean they played a decent game defensively but Pekka made a difference tonight. The type that I haven't seen Ellis make yet.

But that's just me....who knows what will happen next game.

Hemsky made deVries look like a fool a good time or two, luckily nothing much resulted from it.

Our first goal against is Koistinen's fault. He made a few brutal decisions with the puck, one that led to an Oiler rush into our zone where the first of the 5 on 3 penalties occured. Besides that, he is probably the softest player on our team by far.

Ryan Jones made the play of the night for me. I loved who he took the Oiler off of his feet and cleared the way for goal #3. He also made some really smart plays that just barely missed connecting. He can think at the speed of the game. You really see flashes of great things out of him.

anyone read the GDT over on the Oilers board?

if you can't beat 'em, make fun of the market, the commentators, the cameraman, the commercials, the in-game chants....

If you do go over there guys, keep it light. The best way to point something out is through humor......

NIF - I understand your point, and to a degree, I agree with you. However, I have always wondered why we are so conservative with minutes on this team. We are starting to do away with that on defense (finally), but on offense we are still ultra conservative. When I see such a clear difference between the talent levels of the top 2 vs. the bottom two lines....I wonder why the disparity in minutes isn't a little bit larger than what we have seen consistently the past few years.
