The last thing we need is another 3rd/4th liner.

Why does this team need Ortmeyer? All you do is add salary a salary the Rangers didn't want to give him in the first place. He only played in 51 games last year. And he's yet to play this year because of a knee injury.

yeah, Ortmeyer makes us worse at this point. The guy couldn't score on a dead hooker.

Sounds better than a career AHL'er I guess. Getting something "in the future" is good enough for me though.

im not even sure he would a spot on the team, probably be in Hartford when he's healthy. Not sure what his contract status is, if its too much then yea, its a waste. Having him in the org. would be nice thou.

Well, I wish it could have worked out differently. Best thing for him and the Rangers.

Good luck Hugh.

Another wasted 1st round pick. Man, what a bust... and we picked this guy before Getzlaf, Parise and Richards. Jessiman isn't completely over though. Big power forwards might take until they are 26 before they bloom.

Can't win them all I guess. At least it's comforting as hell we cover this up by picking Lundqvist in the 7th, as FireSather mentioned on IRC.

Was Jessiman not playing in Hartford? Or not playing much?

The timing of this I find strange.

Apprantely from that draft we wanted either Parise, Brown, Carter, or Jessiman. Once Carter went one pick before us we chose Jessiman since we wanted size thinking he was our future powerforward.

Just dumping a guy that was a bust pretty much from day 1, thats all.

Dont know why everyone feels the need to speculate that this is the beginning of something bigger.

Apparently he was a healthy scratch for a few games before getting into the lineup for the last game... and playing horribly.

Sucks that the Rangers literally could have thrown a dart at an HF mock draft thread and ended up with someone better than Hugh in '03, but dems the breaks. It'll be interesting to see if he ever makes something of himself.

Yes, so? A top goaltender in the 7th round can cover for 5 years or busts or whatever. You don't get one of those very often. Remember Islanders, Pittsburgh, Montreal, etc drafted for goaltenders in the 1st round that have not excelled Lundqvist so far.

I'm just saying we have some comfort from the drafting and scouting in this team. And we've picked up complete players like Rozsival, Girardi, etc basically for free and turned them into good defensemen... we're doing quite ok I would say.

True, but it would simply be nice if more of our 1st rounders actually made it to the NHL.

Well hopefully things have turned around with the drafting and developing. Staal's playing in the NHL right now, and Sanguinetti and Del Zotto look promising.

I'm just about Jessiman's gone so we don't have to hear about every babystep improvement he makes, which just makes things hurt even more.

And then there's Al Montoya...

I'd say our track record is improving. Korpedo should be a full time player by next year. Staal is a stud. Sangs is on track to make the club in the next year or two. Del Zotto looked good in camp/preseason, but it's still too early to say if he'll make it.

If not for the untimely death of Chere, odds are that every one of our last 5 1st rounders would have made the NHL as a Ranger at some point. Since 2004 the only 1st rounder that hasn't worked out based on ability is Montoya.
