Multiple choice quiz:

Is he:
a. Kris Beech part 2
b. Late blooming big body that has real potential

Will he:
a. Toil in the AHL for this year
b. Replace Ryan Jones for a tryout
c. Replace Hornqvist for a tryout
d. Replace a roster player being traded

Future considerations will be:
a. 5th round pick or worse
b. Pick better than the 5th round
c. Fiddler, Ortmeyer
d. Another roster player
e. Minor league prospect

I'm going with a for all of the above.

why knock this move? he's big, a first round pick, and still only 24. I'll admit he's been a bust so far, but it's a no-risk move. Nowhere to go but up with this one.

That's an easy "A."

B, C, and D are all hilarious since he's never played an NHL game.

Give them Ortmeyer. He sucks but the Rags fans just love him.

I remember a few years ago when Flames fans were saying Ramholt was 'just' behind Weber and Suter in development......granted....this was before they hit the NHL . He obviously hit a roadblock.

You really can't knock moves like this. We need size in our system, and there is a slight chance this helps. Honestly, I can't see Jessiman being that much of a downgrade to Smithson, et. all that Trotz loves to run out there.

i still think he's a nice depth guy, capable of being a filler for 3rd line. with sulzer, who is NHL ready IMO, and now ramholt, you guys are incredible deep on blueline. i like that trade.

He did have a good year that year 36 points in 51 GP in the QMJHL (Compared to Weber's 32 points in 60 GP in the WHL)... after that.. well Ramholt didn't do too much developing.. whoops

Agreed on both counts. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if Ramholt is behind Sulzer, Laakso, and Franson...

different style, so it's not just depth but also having the choice which style is needed. really impressive.

same with jessiman. he might be a useful depth guy.

so both trades give depth and should improve the admirals. i bet they are happy in milwaukee.

Just to be clear, I'm not knocking it. It is what it is: a trade (or trades) likely to not have any material impact on the Preds now or later. Assuming the future considerations aren't ugly, these are low risk, depth moves with longshot odds of being more than that.

As a Rangers fan I've been a proponent of Jessiman for a while. It depends on how stocked your system is b/c he can definitely play a fourth line role now and has potential to be a third liner. In Hartford he was simply squeezed out by similar players who were better than him. A while back when the Rangers system was a mess he would still be there or even in MSG.

Future considerations are never ugly. It'll be something stupid like the Rangers get a 5-7th round pick if Nashville re-signs him, or he plays 20 games, or something. Meh.

Basically...he works hard, he actually has decent skills, but he's still a little awkward with his skating and balance, and he doesn't have a great head for the game. He made some improvements when he simplified his game and started playing the "hit people and go to the net" type of game, but he's just kind of struggled to continue improving.

Maybe you'll get lucky and he'll do alright. He's a hard worker and a good guy, his development just didn't go well.

I will second what Levitate says above. Hugh is a good guy, who seems to have gone backward in his development this season. Last season, Hugh started to look like he could play in the NHL, either this year or next. He was crashing the net, showed good hands, better skating, and very good strength on the puck. His numbers really picked up and he was a leader in the locker room.

His contract was up this past summer, and Jess was resigned to a one year deal. The Rangers then could spend just a little while longer evaluating where he was going. When Jessiman came to camp, it was clear that he was not going to be a force this year. What ever work he did over the summer did not pay off, and he was not playing the north-south, crash the net style that the Rangers had told him they wanted from him. What he was doing in Hartford was the old Jessiman, kind of buzzing around, looking for the shot, making poor decisions, and having renewed skating and balance issues. It almost looked like he was playing rec hockey out there.

Not suprisingly, it did not work out for him. Although I have made it a point to talk to Hugh when I have been in the Rangers training camp, Hartford and Charlotte in prior years, I did not get a chance to earlier this month, so I cannot say what has been going on his head.

What I can say is that this is the best thing that could have happened to him. Jessiman needs a new start, and it may not amount to much, but he was headed toward a completely wasted year without a trade.
