From www.tsn.ca

The news comes just after Valentenko's AHL team - the Hamilton Bulldogs - gave the 21-year-old an indefinite leave to attend to family matters back in Russia. A Canadiens spokesman said the team was unaware of the signing.

We'll find out more about this soon but if he actually betrayed the team, I don't want someone with this kind of character in the organization anyway.

One theory states that the lack of class in fact came from overseas. They hold the 'ole ole' phenomenon as proof.

Well, this doesn't look good.

Smells like a defection to the East!

I don't get how defections like these can happen. What is a NHL contract worth now? I will believe it when the Canadiens announce it...

Has the Radulov case been closed? If so, what came out of it?

What needs to happen then is the NHL needs to permanently ban individuals who do this. If the global legal community cannot police this then the league and players association need to do their own dirty work.

I agree... and the IIHF should be tougher on these things too....

This is the first one of the montreal players in russia that really bothers me.... I'd love Emelin and Korneev to come over, but you can't force a person to do that. I was dissapointed that Perezhogin left, but he didn't have a contract here and he got more money there.

But this was turning your back on your contract... that makes me

Guys on radio just said that the Habs ALLOWED Valentenko to stay in Russia for the rest of the season because the illness of his grand-father. And given the cost and so forth, have come up with the conclusion that the best for him would be to stay and play in Russia. Even if he signed a contract of 3 years, he will be able to return with the Habs next season.

We heard this earlier today.... we have also heard from TSN and RDS that the Canadiens had no idea that he would be signing a contract.

I'd like to hear something from Gainey or Brisebois on this issue to clear things up.
