Maxim Lapierre appreciation thread

I think the guy doesn't have the recognition he deserves this year. He is playing very well, IMO. Despite limited talent, he is giving all his heart on every shift, does an amazing job on PK, improved his faceoffs skills.

I know there are a lot of Lapierre bashers around here but I don't think they have lots of arguments to criticize his play thus far this year. Yeah he doesn't score much, lack of hockey sense, but he is a 4th liner, he is no Sidney Crosby, but he is doing a very good job for what he is asked.

Continue like that Max!

I'll give credit where it's due, he has played well to start the season, I hope he keeps it up all year.

to be honest I haven't seen alot of Lapierre bashing around here.

I've liked him ever since he played in PEI and drove Crosby nuts everytime they played one another. I hope he can find a little touch around the net, if he does he'll have a long career in the NHL.

I'll eat some crow, although it's a small portion due to the season being young, but he has been great so far.

I'll admit that last summer I was preaching he shouldn't be in the NHL

If he would payed well why not?

there is not only 10 players on a hockey team, you know. If you think that only top 6 fowards are useful/can be appreciated it shows your level of hockey knowledge so I won't loose time trying to make an argument with you.

All I'm going to say is if you don't agree with the appreciation thread, don't post in it, but hey, it is a free world and you can do whatever you want.

Except for the first few games he's been a very good 4th line player. He somehow makes people believe that Dandenault is not atrocious. I've put a lot of attention to Dandenault last game, to see if it was just blind hate on my part, but Dandenault was freekin' useless. Lapierre, and to a lesser extent, Kostopoulos did an amazing job last night they did everything on their own.

Probably based on his play-making, passing or scoring abilities. For some strange reason, a fourth liner like Laps was judged for not being an offensive juggernaut.

I think he's always brought the fourth line qualities, toughness, agitator, occassional goal that are required on winning teams. I think having Lang around makes Laps role as the fourth line center alot more defined to people.

It's pretty typical here though that fourth liners (Laps, Dandy, Lats last year, etc.), bottom pairing defenseman (Cube, Gorges, O'Byrne), backup goalies get criticized for not being "better" players. Well there is a reason those players play those positions. Because they are limited to a few skills they are decent at, including consistency. You can't have 4 lines of top tier players and 6 top D-men. There's something called a salary cap, which we are going to deal with this off season for having too many "good" players.

I think I just had high expectations because usually 2nd round picks aren't used on speedy stone-handed agitators

He was crap when he started out this year but he's been dynamite lately. I was always a huge fan of his...I like the "pest" type of player.

He has been great pretty much every shift.
Also he is 14th in the league with a 56.6 face off %.

I've been critical of him in the past, but I'll admit he's been playing very well. The offensive isn't there but he's so fast our 4th line is very difficult to play against. As long as he continue to give everything he has like that he'll be a great 4th line center.

For Laps role, he is doing everything expected of him. Putting up great face-off numbers has him well on his way to being a very useful shut-down/energy player in this league. With all the chances he creates with his speed, if he works on his playmaking and finishing, he could put up some very decent numbers.

As much as i dislike him, he is playing extremely well. Hopefully he can be consistent. I would like to see him produce a little more on the scoresheet (i know he is a 4th liner), but he seems to get a couple opportunities a game. A couple points here or there would be great.

He admits himself he has no hands but he can win face-offs and he has some speed. Too bad Chipchura doesn't have those two qualities because he'd be playing in his place. I say too bad because I think Chipchura is a better hockey player.
