It will be interesting to see what happens when Jones gets back. The D with Parent and Jones (and minus Kukkonen and Alberts) looks to be quite good, if Parent and Jones come back and play the way we thought they would.

Timonen-Coburn
Parent-Jones
Vaananen-Sbisa
Eminger

That's pretty good stuff right there.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Sbisa is flat out better than Parent and on par with Jones. I know it's very early and he will likely hit some kind of wall or plateau at least.

I think there's a possibility that he's all around better than Parent especially coming off injury. There is ZERO chance he's better than Jones if he comes back playing like the end of last year.

I predict that Parent starts in the AHL, because Eminger has played pretty damn well the last few games

Parent gets rattled in games especially when he gets checked and he has trouble getting the puck to the forwards. Sbisa is better. Parent needs more time to develop.

I'd rank Vaananen as our 3rd D-man as of now. He's played well so far.
1. Kimmo
2. Coburn
3. Ossi
4. Sbisa

I like Ossi. I think he's looking pretty well on the second pairing. I do like how him and Sbisa play together. Im guessing though that Sbisa would be sent to third pairing and Jones would play with Ossi. Im not too set with a 3rd pairing of Sbisa and Eminger. I do have to say though that Eminger is looking better. I liked how he played tonight. Parent will probably start with the Phantoms

If ain't broke... If Sbisa is doing well with Ossi, they should leave him with Ossi. Jones and Eminger are likely to be the 5-6, Kukkonen is the 7th, and Parent gets stashed in the minors, until there's an injury or someone plays themselves out of the lineup.

I really like Ossi, he seems to provide Sbisa with some stability back there. He's also a pretty good all around player, I'm pretty impressed with how well he moves the puck.

10 Games
18 Hits
22 Blocked Shots
5 Assists
+1

Not too shabby

Ossi has been good. I think Parent will be moved down to the Phantoms when he gets back. I'm curious how they'll handle Alberts though.

My guess is that if they can do it cap-wise they waive or trade Kukkonen and keep Alberts. Kukkonen is more positionally sound but Alberts brings a lot of stuff that you just don't get from Kukkonen.

I agree that Alberts has dragged down Eminger a bit.
Alberts is just freaking awfull. I think Eminger will be a perfect 3rd pairing guy when Parent and Jones get back.
Im guessing Alberts is waived by Christmas.

Seems that Väänänen is getting a lot of playing time, which is nice to see.

How about Kukkonen, is he injured, or he just isn't making the lineup?

Since we are guessing I am going to guess even further in off season or at the deal line I would love to see:

Jones, Parent, Nitty traded. Knuble is not resigned. Ahsma moved, waived, killed?

Gagne 5.25 Briere 6.5M Giroux .85M 12.6
Hartnell 4.2 Richards 5.75M Lupul 4.25M 14.2
JVR .85 Carter 5M Upshall 1.7M 7.55
Cote .550M Metro 1M Downie .821 2.4
Nodl .8M

Timonen Coburn 7.7M paring.
Jay-Bo Sbisa 8M paring
Vaananen Eminger 2.5M paring

Biron 3.5M No more
Boucher .5M

Total 59.8M

56.7 this year cap

Probably impossible. Someone would have to take a salary cut or Lupul or Hartnell would have to be moved. Perfect scenario Briere retires or traded after he fights with M.Richards, Timonen and Gagne in practice and calls Homers mother a wh_ore talks about Snider on WIP.

Of course you do, because like 90% of hockey fans, it's the flashy guy that gets all the credit.

Jones and Eminger would be a nightmare together though....

Stevens hates Kukkonen, dont expect him to ever get a chance with this organization as long as he is here.

Kukkonen is usually a healthy scratch each game.

Sorry for derailing the topic, but didn't he show some decent performances with the flyers when he did play? Meaning, if he got traded, would he succeed in the NHL?

Mkoll, kiitos hyvää, mitäs sinne?

According to TSN and Yahoo Sports, he has no injuries to report of. He played 18 minutes against Edmonton, which is only about 2 minutes short of what his average is, so I'm almost positive he's healthy. We would've heard something by now, or someone like Meltzer would've reported it.

Yeah, one of the papers this morning said he was day to day with an upper body injury.

Yes. He was excellent the first 15 games or so last year with Jones as his partner, the complemented each other very well. He also, other than that one horrible turnover, played pretty well in the playoffs last year. When he gets to play for a stretch, he is a steady stay at home third pairing dman. He doesnt appear to play well when he comes in for a game or two here and there.

Some people need playing time to succeed. Coming in cold for a game or two once in awhile isnt exactly easy

The Stevens supporters/Kukkonen haters will tell you he is nothing more than a third pairing dman in the NHL. While that may be true, he is certainly the better option than Alberts, and was a much better option than Modry or Vanduhmeer last year. This coach just doesnt like him for some reason.

Must have slapped Stevens' hand away when he went for the reach around....

One beat writer lists him as doubtful for the Ottawa game and another as questionable. Most likely, Kukkonen would replace him if he can't go. I would imagine an update on the Flyers' site later today.

D Ossi Vaananen sat out with an "upper body injury" and is expected to be replaced by D Lasse Kukkonen when the Flyers visit Ottawa on Thursday night.
