I would love to see this guy on the Habs but I don't see us making a big trade for him this year. Maybe next year, but I think this year we focus on the cup and maybe in the offseason think about whether we re-sign some of the guys we have or go after a guy like Kovalchuk who is pretty much a complete forward line on his own.
But, we'd lose so many key players going the other way that team chemistry may be affected. Our team, for the most part, seems pretty tight as a group - something that was missing say 4-5 years ago - I like the team we have now.
Having said that - I wouldn't be adverse to trading some depth to obtain a good, solid defenceman. But, if we play as well as we did last evening on D, maybe we'll be alright in that department, too.
First, this guy want to be out of this team! It's a good time to trade for him. His value is high, but considering he doesn't want to play in Atlanta, his value gonna drop a little bit.
And second, he doesn't have a great ethic, but look at Kovalev. He didn't have one and we all see, right now, that's it was just due to bad team spirit.
You can't pass on a 50 goals scorer and 90-100pts. He's one of the best player in the NHL, and I'm sure he would be happy to play on a team like Montreal with many Russians players (Kovalev, Markov, Kost bros).
For sure Waddell will ask a lot, but this guy is a superstar. Big player that is very young. I prefer Kovalchuk to Gaborik. At least, he's never injured.
