From the Sport-Express Daily

Kovalchuk is fed up playing for a losing team and the talk between GM start at the meeting of last week.

I would actually think of giving up one of our young guns for this guy, for one simple reason. He's 25. Its not like we would be giving up young guns for an old veteran. This guy is in his prime, at 25 years old. He still has many years of hockey ahead of him. Kovalchuck is a pure sniper.

Yeah and it doesn't say they want to get rid of him. It implies that Kovalchuk could be fed up with playing for a losing team and then request a trade.

Maybe...but do you have the same feeling as me. That it's true that Kovalchuk dont want to play for this team anymore. Like Bouwmeester with the eternal neverending buildting of the Florida Panthers.

Oh man, the south east division is crap

Sundin then Gaborik and now Kovalchuk. Well at least it's getting better.

That would cost us both Kostitsyn +.

Who's better? Gaborik or Kovalchuk?

Overall, probably Kovalchuk because he's healthier.

Regardless, they don't have cap room right now for his 7.5M, even if they traded Higgins and a couple of top prospects for him.

He sat out the start of the 05-06 season in a contract dispute (and actually even played a few games in Russia) before finally signing. But I think he's matured a lot since then...from his interviews at least.

Habs trivia moment:

His first game back that was season against the Habs in Atlanta. Habs won, I believe it was 2-0. The shutout? Credit Yann Danis for that one, in his first NHL game no less.

You are absolutely right. That would be a start. We have to dump salary as well.
