I'm not sure where Hasek's game is at now. He played 14 games last year?

For a reflex goalie, you gotta wonder if he's slowing down.

The Dominator has become the Groin-be-in-later.

Despite what a great career he has had I'm not sure I'd place the potential of a successful season on him.

All things being equal perhaps you are right. but they are not. since losing in the finals in buffalo hasek has lost most of two seasons to groin injuries and one full season to retirement. those three lost seasons are wrapped around two full seasons.

So, to stand here today and say that Hasek is a top 5 goalie to lead a team thru a full regular season and into the playoffs is a crap shoot. he has played 14 games in the last two seasons. if i were a gm with the choice of all nhl goalies to get me thru one season, i could think of at least ten that i would trust to make it healthy thru a season and deliver top play, before i would choose hasek.

Khabibulin, Kiprisoff, Nabokov, Luongo, Turco, Raycroft, Theodore, Broduer, Belfour, Kolzig....Hasek might be better than any of these guys if healthy on a given night.
but if its my job on the line, i am choosing one of the other guys. last year holland chose hasek and that call killed his team.

If Hasek breaksdown again, Ottawa will be dead in the water.

How many goalies can you name that are better than Ken Dryden today!

My point is, as Xithyl said, this thread is useless.

When is the last time the guy played? Groin injuries are serious for any goaltender, let alone someone approaching 40 years old.

Watching him outplayed by Johan Hedberg in a playoff series years back, he was already in decline then. Like the vast majority of athletes his age, he's not the player he was, nor close.

The only ranking I would give him right now is 'unable to rate' until he is back playing and you can gauge his play.

If you are talking about the Hasek of today that signed with Ottawa it depends. There are a lot of questions about him right now. Is he healthy? Is he motivated to play well again. How much does he have left at 40. If there are negative answers to some or all of these questions that list may be even bigger. If he can play like he did in his prime, maybe one or two guys. Big risk by the Sens.
