Ohlund playing hurt?

Fri, Oct 31 Ohlund tore a ligament in his finger during the Canucks' six-game road trip that ended last week, the Vancouver Sun reports.

Recommendation: Ohlund has been playing through the injury and will continue to do so. "I don't even think about it," Ohlund said of playing with the injury. "It has no effect." The only downer is that he has his finger bandaged up, which means he can't get into any fights. Any player who fights with tape on his hands faces a match penalty.

Perhaps this could explain why his game has been a bit off lately?

After the fight with Cole, he was looking at his finger like it was in some pain.

Good call... I believe you are right there. I found the most significant factor here is that Ohlund is playing through the pain, when quite a few other players would go on the IR (or at least miss a game or two) with the same injury.

Ohlund pretty much always does this.

"Oh yeah, barely realized that my leg had been severed, just kept playing for the next three weeks."

hes been playing injured for a long time with a tear in his abdomen. I dont' think you can solely use the finger injury as an excuse. He was great in the 1st 2 games and hes been 'average other times'. So far with 3 points, its simply not good enough. Mitchell in the shutdown role has 5 points.
And bieksa imo has been the best dman so far in the young season. Salo has been surprisingly bad, and edler has made many mistakes but imo has made the most impact offensively.

Yep, Ohlund already had his finger bandaged up when he fought Cole (he had to get it re-taped during the game).

During the 06/07 season our Dmen scored the most goals in the entire league as a whole.

I doubt Ohlund, Bieksa, and Salo will be silenced for an extended period of time. Bieksa will flirt with 40 points this year, and Ohlund will end up in the mid 30's. Salo is a wild card of course with his injury history, so he could end up with anywhere from 15-40, most likely around 30.

A month?

And then Miller played through that triple gunshot wound, that one was noticeable.

Pretty much.

Ohlie always plays through it if he can. Probably for the best to because we always see how good he is when he's not injured.

Offensively he hasn't been getting shots on net very often.

Using Bieksa and Edler as the top PP pairing has hurt his minutes and offensive output.

I noticed that too; at the time I was more concerned about him getting the automatic match penalty than his finger. Even with a weak terminal phalanx Ohlund is a rock.

He's primarily a shutdown guy and right now he's on pace for over 30 points.

Edler's usurped a lot of Ohlund's role on the powerplay, so that might be where some of Ohlund's offensive game has gone, but I don't think he's struggling in any capacity.
