Rank the Avs historically -- #1

Inspired by the Hejduk thread. I thought it might be interesting to compare everyone's opinions on the ~10-15 best Avs players in the team's brief history to date. Only rule is that it has to be a "what they did as Avs" pick; Bourque was obviously a better defenseman than Foote but Foote meant much more to the franchise.

For this first poll I only included the two obvious choices for the #1 pick as I can't think of a single arguement for anyone other than Sakic and Roy. Vote and please add five suggestions for the next poll.

Hopefully this gets some good debate and nostalgia going.

In terms of value to the franchise, Joe Sakic is the Colorado Avalanche so he should be no. 1 hands down.

But, as for the best player, not sure on that one. Sakic is a beast in the playoffs, but Roy meant more to the team in the playoffs and during the regular season. Not saying Sakic wasn't as important but obviously you need a leader. But in my head, if one person was gone between Roy and Sakic in the team's history which would effect the team more? I say Roy.

Joe Sakic is a top 15 center in history, IMO. But St Patrick is a #1/2 goalie of all time. I love Joe as much as the next guy, but i had to pick Patty. Even if he was only here for 7 years, we wouldn't have done it without him.

I voted Sakic on the premise of this being "who was the best Av", not necessarily the best player. Roy is better in terms of their respective positions all-time though.

In terms of value to the team and overall talent.

#1 Roy
#2 Forsberg
#3 Sakic

No one is close to these 3 at this time.

in terms of talent, Forsberg was the best. Only injuries brought a bit of a damper on his career. Forsberg was more dynamic than Sakic, but his playing style cost him also.

I feel Roy meant more during the deep runs. But I think Forsberg has been better than both.

Add: Forsberg, Foote, Deadmarsh, Lemieux, Blake.

I think it's hard to pick #1 out of Forsberg and Roy but having a great goalie that you can count on to steal games or make the big save leans me ever so slightly to Roy. There is no doubt that Forsberg is the most talented player the Avalanche have had. There is a reason why every team was forced to send their top defensive pair out against him rather then Sakic.

I'd put him top 5 for sure, he's #8 on the all-time list and a better PPG than Francis, Yzerman, Messier, and Howe.
