Goaltender trade? (TSN RUMOR)

Has anyone heard the rumor on TSN about a possible goaltender trade?

From TSN:
"According to the Ottawa Sun, the Flyers are very concerned about their goaltending and could be shopping for a solution. Noting that Chicago's Nikolai Khabibulin would be too pricey, the paper suggests Atlanta prospect Ondrej Pavelec or Montreal backup Jaroslav Halak as possibilities."

Any thoughts? Personally I don't want to see Bulin or Halak after we torched him in the playoffs last year but what about this pavelec guy?

Halak/Pavelec would be awesome. But there not really any better than Biron/Niitty

I think that was printed awhile ago. That blurb reads more like speculation than an actual rumor anyway.

A lot of Flyer fans like Pavelic or Schneider as replacements for Niity as next season's backup, and then Biron's eventual replacement as starter.

--Thread subject edit wouldn't hurt anybody. It's a tad misleading...

Yes but can they get someone like schneider or pavelic for what they have now? Wouldn't it be better for them to trade for someone like these two now then to wait till they blossom and become good goalies. When they do become good goalies we would have to sell the farm to get one of them.

I'm sure they could try to get one of them now, I'd be all for it, but it'd be a move for next season and beyond, not right now.

I'm sure Atlanta would absolutely love to get their hands on Niittymaki if only to keep him from killing them.

I don't know who Philly will be willing to give up. Everyone they have seems to be an indispensable part of their team. Knuble? Strong on the PP. Hartnell? Plays a great two way game and is a solid agitator/defender. Carter is a sniper and has been producing too much to trade.

Bulin Wall comes to Philly only if Biron is among those sent packing, says the cap.

To Flyers
G Nikolai Khabibulin
3rd round pick

To Hawks
G Martin Biron
RW Mike Knuble

You guys gain a world class goalie and open up your RW slot for young winger.

My Hawks get a good RW in final year of deal and Biron who we can move to Colorado or Ottawa for a pick or something.

Yea you are forgetting we are pushing the brim with salarycap and # of contracts. So that won't work!

Yes, it would. Not saying I would do it, but it would work. We currently have 1.924M in cap space, add Knuble's 2.8M and Biron's 3.5M, you get 8.224M in cap space, enough to fit Khabibulin (6.75) under the cap, and still have 1.474M in cap space left. We currently have I think 49 contracts, and 49-2=47, and 47+1=48, so I don't see how the # of contracts comes into play here.

To me that's more interesting than the goalie rumors, which I'd be surprised if anything came out of.

Bulin is a 35 year old UFA after this year. I don't care how good he is right now, the whole thing is that we need a young goaltender that is going to help this team win long term. Bulin doesn't do that.

From what I read, Shanny wants to stay east coast if at all possible, specifically NY/NJ/PA if possible. Has to do with not moving his kids/family around.

As for Homer, I can't imagine he wouldn't at least grant him a meeting (or pursue one), even if it is only cursory. He brings a lot of experience to the table, and an arguable amount of his former skill, so i figure it can't hurt to entertain the idea for a few minutes and mull it over.

Hawks better give a better pick and a prospect for Biron and Knuble. Khabibulin at this point is a salary dump. If not enjoy paying over 11M a year for goalies.

There is no guaranty that Khabibulin (who makes twice what MB makes) will play better then Biron and Knuble is not a salary dump.

Flyers could trade Biron to COL for 2nd and prospect and then move Knuble and 5th to Hawks for Khabibulin and prospect and pick (at least 2nd). Sign Shanny

He's not a bad stop-gap in the event they trade a winger.
