So, with Tony Granato kicked off the throne in Colorado...

...who now qualifies as the worst NHL head coach?

I think it's a race between Gerard Gallant and Tom Renney...I'd give Renney the edge, because I'm a bitter Canucks fan.

What is so bad about Gallant? Sure he is obscure, but worst head coach, why?

Because he looks clueless on the bench and, from what I recall, there wasn't much of a turn-around when he was named head coach. Even the worst of head coaches can usually squeeze a half-decent streak out of their team at the beginning (see Rick Kehoe).

Gallant may not have a playoff team on paper, but he's still got plenty of talent and did nothing with it (again, as I recall) late last season.

But I'd have to give Renney the nod here. As if his comments on Messier's spear didn't do it for me, his actions of double-shifting Dale Purinton in a close game certainly did.

i admired olczyk this past season because even though the pens always lost, he always got them to play hard and give it their all. that kind of attitude has never been seen here in pittsburgh before.

Brian Sutter, especially given that he hired Butch Cassidy (who would likely hold this distinction if anyone is dumb enough to hire him again) as an assistant. Curt Fraser would be #1 with a bullet if he ever somehow found a coaching job again.

Lewis, looks like Hitler behind the bench and can't seem to motivate his players well.

Crawford has accomplished a lot since being the Canucks head coach.

2 straight 100+ point seasons and a division title. The Nucks have gone from a bottom-feeder to a contender under Crow.

Don't forget he coached your team to a Cup, and is 10 times the coach Granato is.

Crawford gets my vote since he took a team on the rise straight to hell with Bertuzzi.
