PH: "We can pay you $600K."

BS: "Uh, no."

PH: "How about if we pay you $600K to promise you'll sign with a bad team in the Western Conference."

BS: "OK, we can talk about that."

Do we need more scoring?
or there will be a trade?
or Nodl and Downie will come back to AHL for the whole season.

Id say this:

Gagne-Briere-Hartnell
Shanahan-Richards-Lupul
Upshall-Carter-Knuble

Shanny is one of my favorite players, ever.

That said, do we really need another forward with what's going on?

Likewise, and how good his name would look on that of the Flyers.

Having said that, it's 2008, not 1994.

...I'll pass.

Veteran leadership is needed, in my opinion. It wouldn't hurt to bump Nodl back to the AHL and have a very solid top 9. Or, it gives you more flexibility to make a trade from the wings to address the defense.

I don't see much downside to it, unless he really sucks it up for way too much money.

Guys, we're always gonna have some massive injury. Homer's just being ready. As soon as he signs here Briere's going to realize they accidentally took out his spleen during his surgery or something and he'll be out and we will have cap room.

Yes, he is in shape... he has been working out since the offseason and all during training camp and the regular season at the Rangers training center.

No I would go for Burke. We were looking for a goalie anyway.

No, seriously maybe Homer is trying to set up a bigger trade? Like Hartnell, Parent and Kukkonen plus pick for Jay-Bo?

I do not understand why we need another forward and how the hell Stevens and Berube will coach 650 goal scorer.

Maybe the Flyers will win some SOs?

Is he going to play defense or goalie, last I checked we average what 4 goals a game? Offense: good Defense: bad. Only way I like this move is if he takes Asham's spot on the 4th line and we use him as a shootout specialist, lord knows we need one of them.

From Timmy P's column, this worries me a lot:

Quote:
Watching the Flyers, you might think they should be looking for help on the blue line. Holmgren says it’s not the defense but rather the forwards' failure to play defense that has him worried.
I might agree with that, but does he not also see that our defense doesn't do itself any favors? The corps overall is still weak... this is a bit disconcerting that he seems to think a top 4 18 year old defenseman (as good as he is and will be) still doesn't ring alarm bells.

I've been thoroughly impressed with Sbisa and think he's definitely top 4 the way he's been playing but I'm also not blind enough to believe that we have to need him to be a top 4 d-man and call ourselves contenders.

He's easily better than Nodl, who would clearly still benefit from a year in the AHL. He makes the top 9 better, provides leadership, and yes, adds a weapon to the shootout. He also gives you more depth from which to make a trade.

Although, it does trouble me that Homer thinks the forwards are the main problem in the defensive zone. But, he does reserve the right to wait until Jones and Parent are back to see if a trade needs to be made back there.

The guys got gas left in his tank trust me. If you give him PP and 18 min a night he ll get you 70 points. He's much like a Sakic, Selanne type player. No matter how old he gets he'll still produce plenty, given a offensive role.

70 points? He's already missed 11 games... not to mention how many more games he misses once (if) he actually signs.

hence i was refering to a full season. Just trying to make a point that he has 100% capabilty of putting up a PPG still without any problem.....that is if he is given a prominate offensive role. (which he deserves)

Gange-Briere-Shanny
Lupul-Richards-Hartnell
Upshall-Carter-Knuble
Cote-Metro-Ash/Downie

Also something to note...... I absolutly love how Steven's has split up the ice time between his players this season. 1st line 20 mins Richards/Carter Lines 17-18 mins and even our energy line. Great job thus far. Boy i'd love shanny though!

We have an insane amount of finishers......hence we lead the leauge in goals! If only we can keep them out now. Shanny +/- +250 lifetime<<< bingo

From the Inquirer:

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/i..._Shanahan.html

Quote:
Though it' seems like a longshot, the Flyers are trying to sign free-agent winger Brendan Shanahan, who is being courted by the Devils and Blues, among others.

Shanahan, 39, who has scored 680 career goals, had a lengthy discussion with Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren today.

Holmgren lauded Shanahan’s efforts as a two-way player and noted that his defense would help the Flyers.

“He gets it,” the general manager said.

Holmgren said he never discussed salary with Shanahan, who scored 23 goals with the Rangers last season. With the Flyers only about $700,000 under the NHL’s $56.7 million cap, the Flyers would have to be creative to sign Shanahan _ even if he signed for a bargain-basement price of, say, $1 million.

“It’s just very exploratory, on Brendan’s part and on our part,” Holmgren said. “But if you have an opportunity to add a good player who doesn’t cost you any assets, you have to look into it. He’s an experienced player and has been on three Stanley Cup champions and his presence on the ice and in the locker room would be invaluable.”

Stay tuned.

I do agree he brings some vet leadership to the team. In fact, i believe we need that. But i'd much rather go after J-BO honestly.

Okay, so we sign Shanahan.

We trade Lupul + 1st + Marshall for J-Bo (Steep?)

Gagne - Briere - Knuble
Hartnell - Carter - Shanahan
Upshall - Richards - Downie
