Avery in Dallas

http://thehockeynews.com/articles/19...cent-news.html

Quote:
The fact of the matter is the Stars leadership core – Modano, Turco and Brenden Morrow – have no time for Avery, who has proved this season that the Rangers’ great record when he was in the lineup was an anomaly.
i don't know that our record with him was an anomaly, but it sure seems like it's good we didn't resign him. think this just goes to show how important shanny was to avery containment...

Ehhh. I really don't know what to say here, I don't think it was a coincidence what our record with and without Avery was, but I guess you're right. Players like shanny, and drury were key in keeping Avery smart.

yea, dallas doesnt have anywhere near as much leadership in their locker room as the rangers had last season....theres no doubt that he is effective on the ice.....its in the locker room that sather and renney knew what would happen and IMO they made the right choice...

Or you know ,its actually possible that THE TEAM won the games and not just the avery show, sure maybe he kept some of the bonehead teams(like the flyers) paying attention to him but certainly he didnt win us every game alone.

Meh, move on. He's not with us any more, no reason to pay attention to what he does unless it somehow affects our team.

It is fun to laugh at them though. Most of the Stars fans are still in denial about how his antics are not affecting the team in the locker room

Avery is no longer a Ranger. As such, what happens in Dallas with Avery is not related to the Rangers.

Going above "the bosses" head on this one. Sorry SBOB.

I was never much of a fan at any price. Dallas fell into the trap of using him in the manner that the ill-conceived Rangers were FORCED to in the absence of quality play from the team's top wingers, Jagr excluded of course. The Rangers were lucky that it worked out as well as it did in his time here, and at $1.9M, it wasn't really an issue that he fell off the face of the earth when his services were needed most.

I thought this quote by Modano was interesting......

"But even more damning was what Mike Modano had to say after the Stars lost 5-1 in Boston Saturday night, a game where Sean Avery and Steve Ott were running around like idiots.

“It was idiotic and stupid,” Modano told the Dallas Morning News. “It was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen. If that’s what we’re going for, then they need to find me an office job.”

Reminds me of when Ned Braden didn't like it when the Chiefs started to goon it up in Slapshot.

Modano: " I'm not gonna goon it up for ya"
Brett Hull: "Then you're not gonna play"

I wouldn't. I think everyone in the organization is over Avery. It's time for Rangers fans to do the same.

Not really surprised. Goons don't flourish as well in the West as they do in the East. Modano has never been a fan of that kind of game either.

Yup. I loved him when he was here...I'm not gonna be like so many others and disparage him now that he's gone.

Whats more important to you - Avery antics for entertainment value or building a winning team/organization?

I think we had a pretty decent team with him. I don't see why entertainment and winning are mutually exclusive. Obviously it's not going to happen now, especially with his 4MM salary. But I wish he had taken the 12MM that we offered.

one of the reasons i dont want him here is because Shanny/Jagr aren't here to babysit him, and he would be one of the veterans.

As much as I did like Avery when I was here, if I had to go back into our past and pick one of our many "annoying" players, he'd be third on the list behind Fleury and Tikkanen.

I know theres a lot of Fleury-hate around here, but he put up good points for us and provided some rather interesting entertainment at at time when the team was otherwise not worth watching. And Tikkanen would be worth it for the interviews alone.

It may be that the Rangers of 06-07 and 07-08 were just about a perfect fit for him. It may be as well that there was not a good fit for him outside those Ranger teams and maybe that Rangers needed someone like Shanny to keep him in line. Sean went for the money and it's hard to blame him for that. He seems to have other ideas beyond hockey anyway and I think he'll do okay in the long run. I liked him a lot when he was here but I moved on when he moved on.

I think it's funny that he has these problems whereever he goes except for in New York. I mean I don't remember one bad thing he did here in the locker room that made the team like that. Other than getting into a fight with Malik (who didn't want to fight him last year) he was a good guy in NY. I don't fully believe all that Shanny kept him in line stuff, I think he had a part but not his puppet master or anything.

Maybe Avery is trying to find his way back to NY really quick with how he is acting in Dallas, he is a pretty smart guy. Get the contract I want from Dallas and force them to trade me back to NY where I really wanted to stay.........BRILLIANT!

We don't really have someone to keep him in line. Nazzy probably couldn't. Mara would probably shut him up though...
