Haven't we had enough of Sundin? He isn't in it to win, his in it for money.
Absolutely, signing with VAN when they offered him 20M is solid proof of that oh wait a minute..
Why would anybody choose ''no'' in this poll??..
Hate the guy all you want, have your doubts about what it is he truly is after, be bitter of him not having signed before deadline here.
But nobody will ever be able to argue that Lang as a 3rd center is better than Sundin there. That would just be plain stupid.
I thought about this the other day. Acquiring Sundin means you're essentially loading up the front to compensate for an apparent defensive hole. Sundin in the line-up puts us over the top offensively easily rivaling Detroit's group.
However, you can keep Lang, whose already finding his niche, and look for a solid top 4 d-man that makes you a complete, evenly balanced team.
I'll stick with the general consensus of the team's needs and that's the second option. Sundin would have been a mean acquisition but that ships sailed. If we can acquire Ohlund or Bouwmeester, Sundin not signing would have probably been a blessing in disguise.
I think there is something to be said about a guy who absolutely wants to be here and who wants to win.
I know Robert Lang will fight for this team... I'm not convinced Sundin's heart is into it.
I think his hearth will be 100% in it when he'll decided to sign. And he will sign with a winning team, it's much more easier to find the love to play again.

I don't know much about Lang, but from what I saw this year, he's not what we could call a defence specialist. And Sundin is underrated defensively.
I think Lang has done an admirable job fitting in on the 3rd line, and it would send a terrible message if he was dealt to accomodate Sundin. It might look good on paper, but it would hurt the team chemistry.

I don't think we got him as a defensive specialist. Big body center, right handed shot, decent point production and could help in the FO department. Depth center.
Like the tittle said, if you could trade Lang and Sundin was willing to sign here, would you do it?
I know I would. I don't believe in "the save the chemistry" argument, as proved by the deadline frenzy every year.
look up your hockey history book, you'll notice, the WINNERS rarely made big splashs at the deadline...
Det, Ana, Car, TB, NJ...
Actually, what you're saying is, there's a trade frenzy at the deadline but it RARELY works... so, the said frenzy proves what exactly ?

Good to know since that's not what BG was looking for when acquiring him...

I've lost respect for the man, and if he wanted to Win he would have signed with us. Lang brings consistency, dedication, experience and heart. Some of those things you'd have to go through 3-4 guys just to find that. Lang is a great mentor, and Sundin missed the boat, I support Lang 110%.

It's not a question of Lang being better than Sundin. It may be a question of who's the better fit for the Habs. Lang knows his role on this team and seems satisfied with it. I don't think Sundin would be satisfied with the same (diminished) role. If he expects more and is given more, that means more has to be taken away from Koivu and/or Plekanec. Does that necessarily put us ahead. I don't know. I would say not really.
In the summer I was excited about getting Sundin and thought it would give us one of the top centremen trio in the league. Now, I'm beginning to think Sundin's refusal was the best thing to happen. We went to our plan B and maybe Plan B was the better fit for our team. Lang provides complimentary offence and spells Koivu on the PK. He's also a winner and a veteran. He's also very cheap when compared to Sundin. This could be an issue come the deadline when we may need a 4th d-man.
Hells no. For obvious reasons stated above, and I was one of the biggest supporters of him coming here at the start of the year. Now? No way. I can't see Bob ever doing it either especially with our current record.
Sundin is much nbetter then Lang no denial about that. Will he sign for 8M+ i doubt it. He met Brian Burke and the Ducks really dont have 8M cap space.
Sundin for cheap, why not? No. I really am not a big fan of bringing a guy to trade him 2 months after saying well the guy we wanted finally made up his mind we dont need you anymore. That's a cheap shot to the guy. He always been a top 2 center, he comes here knowing he might misssome shifts on the PP, hs ice time will go down a bit so is responsabillity, but he's never been so happy. The guy wanna win and is ready to do everything to win. No need to trade him he's doing a great job as what he does.
Sundin in off-season, Hell yes! Woo Sundin, but trading Lang at this point to get Sundin, not really.
No way in hell. Chemistry has been good and is only going to get better. This is how the habs have been playing when they're playing like ****. Imagine when they start to play well. I know they're capable of more then we're being shown. The lines are starting to gel, why would they make such a risky move like this. Sundin could even be on his last legs while Koivu looks like a sundin in his prime this year. Keep lang IMO.
In all seriousness, how can you say no to Sundin. These are professional athletes, they are paid to play hockey and they will get over it. I highly doubt this will even be an issue though, Gainey has too much principle. Now how about dumping Begin and Dandy, sign sundin for 4m (cap??), moving Laps to the wing and dropping Lang to 4th line eh?
Tangs - Sundin - AK27
Higgs - Sak - Lats
SK - Pleks - Kostsr
Laps - Lang - Kosto/laraque
In the end....who's the best hockey player? Even Sundin at 75% is better and more useful. The chemistry factor is overplayed here. Wellwood is a fat pig who thinks that hockey is not important enough to be in shape.....he has 6 goals already. And who says that Sundin wouldn't have a good chemistry with the rest of the team? He took the time he needed to be sure to know what he wanted to do. Would you all have preferred to see him sign here sooner but still unsure of his desire to play hockey.
If the guy comes back AND REALLY want to win a Cup.....why wouldn't we want him?
Just imagine a 3rd line with Lats and SKost with him centering them....much more appealing than with Lang.
