1 hypothetical situation + 1 trade poposal

First, you are Bob.. Lou is calling you asking for Halak.. What do you do? Do you end the discussion saying we arent moving Halak or you are open to discuss about a potential trade? If you are open to discuss, what would you ask in return? What about a first round pick?

Second.. Ducks are trying to free some cap space since the begin of the season to make room for Bobby Ryan.. Habs need a 4th defenseman... What about Obyrne for Franky Beauchemin?

I do not trade Halak because this Brodeur injury opens your eyes to realize even the most consistently healthy players can have a freak accident. So Halak is the best insurance policy.

As for Beauchemin, I would not do it just for the fact of bad PR. It would be terrible to give an actual asset for someone you lost for free. Plus I doubt they move him, he plays more minutes than Pronger and Niedermayer on most nights.

No to the first. Halak is more valuable than any pick we could have.

Hell YEAH to the 2nd though. 1.5million defenseman, solid as a rock...hell of an upgrade. But it won't happen because Burke is no Rejean Houle

No because as long as MARTY is out, thats one less team the Habs will have to worry about come playoffs

Really? Because to me Marty is out for 4 months, comes back, gets into game shape and now you have a rested and ready Brodeur in the playoffs. That would be the last thing I want the Habs to face come the postseason.

If Halak goes to Jersey and Brodeur is healthy before the playoffs... Brodeur is still their starter in the playoffs.....

I think the thinking of the post is that Jersey will miss the playoffs with Weekes... but could make them with Halak. Regardless of how well Weekes or anyone else plays over the next four months... would you tell a healthy and rested brodeur that he is now the backup in Jersey??

Of course not.

The scary part is the injury to Marty means the Devils have to play a game of not being able to rely on their goaltender too heavily, so they will be more sound and defensively aware, if that's even possible. So now not only in the playoffs does a team have to face a rested Brodeur, they have to face a Devils team that has (more than likely) played great hockey and become better as a unit, tightly knit.

That is, if they make it...

4 months of Weekes as a #1 goalie... you know!

It's not like he hasn't been a starter before though. He had some decent stats on some pretty bad Canes teams. Granted that was a few years ago, but he's a decent goalie.

they still play approx. 25 games in the next 3 months which is more than enough to hurt a teams chances.

If the Devils get in, they will definetely be an obstacle in the east....

Anyteam with Brodeur in net will always be a contender....

However I'm not convinced that they will get in with weekes... win tonight or not. Their defence looks weak to me, and Brodeur makes them look better with both his play in net, and his ability to play the puck. They are also in a tough division... and there are 10 legit playoff contenders in this conference (4 in our division, 4 in the Atlantic, 2 in the southeast)... so 2 of those teams will end up on the outside come playoff time.

But we all expected them to be in the playoffs before this injury... if they don't make it better for us... if they do get in well you gotta beat whoever they put infront of you to win the cup, no excuses. That said I don't want to give them Halak and help them make the playoffs, not just for that reason, but for the reason that we've seen this fluke injury, imagine Price gets a similar thing just a week or two before playoffs.... good luck winning the cup with Marc Denis as your starter.

with Martin, Rolston and HOlik injured too, may take more than a decent goalie...

It isn't about his value to the 29 other teams in the league , it's about his value to the Montreal Canadiens which i think you are under rating .

Right now I don't think any team in the Eastern conference wants to help the New Jersey Devils in any way and also Burke would never make that deal so no.

If Halak is traded by Gainey,im pretty sure it will be to a Western Conference team

Both of your propositions have no chance of happening.
A)There is no goalie market right now, and Weekes is a solid backup.
B) Burke would not give up Beauchemin, especially not for O'byrne.

Last year most Anaheim fans were saying Beauchemin is horribly overrated and they were all quite eager to get rid of him.

Dunno if that has changed this year.
