Who would be best for our third line: Grabovski or Lang
Grabovki: cheaper, younger, faster - might have been a better fit with S.Kost
Lang: expensive but experienced- RH shot- slower- probably won't be re-signed
The Habs ave very thin in centers pool- Outside Maxwell and Chipchura, I don't see any who can play in the NHL and produce.
Was Gainey patient enough with Grabovski ?
Yes
Adding Lang for Grabovsky was a nice upgrade plus we got a young player in the swap. Lang adds more size and will produce as much as Grabovsky(p-laying on the 3rd line vs 1st or 2nd for Grabovsky).
Oh yes how could I forget, Gainey has never made a mistake or dumb move. I shall repent before the cheerleaders show up for the usual Rah Rah's. I for one don't remember hearing about Grabs being shopped and unless you find an article to prove that wrong than it's more of the lovely speculation you love to tout as fact.
Patryn isn't anything special and that second could have come from anywhere. Hell even our own second + a low end prospect could have done the trick. The leafs are a team that could make the playoffs on a wing and a prayer. How many times has an 8th place team come into the playoffs hungry and upset the 1st seeded team?
All I am saying is Lang is not worth giving the leafs a vital piece in their rebuild. If you can't see that then you should give your head a shake.
Since the Phoenix incident everyone knew Grabovski's days were numbered.... everyone on this board... everyone in the media... it was obvious. There are also numerous stories about his rift with the Kostitsyn's. I don't feel the need to go searching for all these cause quite frankly I don't have the time... and i don't feel the need to do it for 1 person.
As far as Grabovski being a vital part of a rebuild.... LOL.... we'll know when their rebuild is complete, it will be when they have six forwards better than Grabovski and there is no more room for him in the top 6.
As for Pateryn being nothing special I'd say he has as almost as much chance as developping into a core top 4 d man as Grabs has of being a second line centre on a contender.
I agree with the premise that you don't trade a vital piece to a rival... but Grabovski is not a vital piece.
Considering Chipchura is being groomed for 3rd line duties, that Plekanec is young and is already our 1st line centre, and Lapierre is young and is our 4th line centre, that leaves one spot for Grabovsky. Sorry but that spot is for Ben Maxwell, who is going to be a much better player than Mikhail.
That's not even counting the fact that the Habs could sign UFA's, who would be better than Mikhail, to fill that spot. So there was absolutely no room for him on this team.

You're doing some speculations as well buddy.
You're absolutely right, we have not heard about Grabo being shopped around the league. But, as Beaker pointed out, ever since the Phoenix incident, it's kind of obvious Gainey was gonna move him. So, in all likelihood, he talked to some teams about it. We do not have any proof of that, but it's only logic.
But this is as much of a speculation as saying he wasn't being shopped around and Gainey traded him to the first team that showed interest.
Finally, how do you know Grabo is a vital piece of their rebuild?..that's another speculation on your part. He's a free Agent at the end of the year, maybe they won't want to resign him, maybe he'll ask too much, maybe they'll offer him similar deals as Jeff Finger's. Maybe Grabo will become a 50G score one day and he'll be a Leaf at the time..
We just don't know yet, one thing we know, we DID get a good return at that time. So all this yapping of ''what ifs'' is useless. Fact is we got something good and that's it.
If grabovski isnt resigned at the end of this season I'll raise you the biggest LOLLFMAO ever
Very real possiblity, very slim chance they don't resign him though. He took a few game to get going but he could hit 25 goals this year on a line with Hagman and Kulemin.
Like I said before, good move trading him, bad move trading him to the leafs.

You can't prevent your rivals from getting players... if you think they are gonna overpay for players you don't want on your team, why wouldn't you weaken them by doing that??
Grabs has more goals than anyone on the Habs team. Nice trade Gainey.
It does matter... what part of as long as Grabs is one of your top 6 forwards you will not be a winning team is so hard to understand.
I don't care how many points he scores this year playing 22:00 per game; no one on the habs is getting 22 minutes....
Grabs is like Oleg Petrov, he'll score points for bad teams, but the sooner you have enough depth that you don't need him in the top 6; the sooner you can actually win hockey games.
Grabs has more goals than anyone on the Habs team. Nice trade Gainey.
You have to remember that Grabovski asked to be traded. If he wasn't traded he probably would have left for Russia - at least Gainey didn't let an asset go for nothing. Furthermore, basing an opinion of a trade on such a small sample size is shortsighted.
I wish Grabs all the luck and I hope he does well but lets keep this one in perspective.
Grabs has more goals than anyone on the Habs team. Nice trade Gainey.
So do the Leafs also have their moral victories? Tons of goals but keep losing....would be real moral victory if at least they would be getting Tavares or Hedman but because of the great Grabovski they won't....
Grabs has more goals than anyone on the Habs team. Nice trade Gainey.
If only we still had him. We could have the best winning percentage and 2nd best goals/game average, and the 5th best goals against/game average. Oh wait.

Is this how you evaluate his play.... NHL.com boxscores....
I understand your insight into his game on the ice so much better now.
What part of the word OPINION do you not understand? I don't give a damn what you think constitutes a winning team. You state your opinions like fact and I am the deluded one?
Actually nhl.com is how I see who scored and the assists but nice try with the generalizations. If you did understand my insights it would be a first in the long run of responses you seem to chase after me with.
This is a forum I don't have to agree with you so stop trying to force it.

I'm just saying its hard to take your hockey opinion seriously when all you are seeing is stats and highlights. They really don't give you an appreciation if the player played a good or bad game; or how he plays on the ice.
Heck reading boxscores over the last few years would seem to indicate that Corey Locke has the talent in the AHL to succeed in the NHL. We all know thats not true.
