What does the rest of the world think of Rostislav Klesla?

Here in Columbus, there are a lot of people who surprisingly dont like Rusty. Even though he is our best PKer and a very solid shutdown defenseman. I think there are a lot of fans in Columbus who are all about big numbers, which Klesla does not and will not have. If you are a fan outside of the Jackets, what do you think of Rusty?

Thanks for all input.

A good 2nd pairing defenseman. Probably a #3. Underrated IMO.

I'd be very happy to have him on the Flyers second pairing with Vaananen.

He never lived up to his massive hype but he's still a respectable top 4 defenseman.

Where do you guys believe he ranks among Blue Jackets defenseman?

Klesla-Tyutin-Hejda-Commodore-Methot-Russell-Backman sound right?

Klesla or Tyutin are probably the best all-around dman for the CBJ, but neither have high-end offensive capabilities, so neither are ever going to be considered among the NHL's best.

I disagree that CBJ fans don't like Klesla. As with any fan base, there are a few vocal folks who don't care for him, but I think most CBJ fans appreciate Rusty for his solid all-around game, with that edge toward the defensive game.

He isn't good enough to be untouchable though. Doesn't mean he isn't liked or appreciated.

Solid defensive #3-4 guy. Has a habit of lowbridging Blackhawk players.

I still hate him from when he knee-to-knee'd Ruutu in preseason a few years back.

Klesla is generally overrated by everybody around here. Is he a decent all around d-man? yes. But the moment you get the puck on his stick in the defensive zone and ask him to make a pass to a forward that is where he begins to show just how terrible he can be. When you see what he does with the puck sometimes you could honestly think he is half ********. He has almost 0 hockey sense with he puck but is solid defensively. Tyutin-Hedja-Klesla is where I'd rank them. Klesla would be a #4 or #5 on a good defensive team.

I like Klesla. I think the oilers would love to have them on there team. Im not too sure how well someone like grebeshkov would fit with the jackets organization but I think its a trade that could help both teams.

I'd take that and run. But in another thread some CBJ fans said they'd even add a second. So I would actually just accept it and wait patiently for more.

In my Fantasy League I had him. I ended up trading him for Beauchemin and a 3rd round pick. I like to think I won. Does that answer your question?

I've always been a big Rostislav Klesla fan (points to his Klesla jersey hanging on his wall), I've always wanted him to be a Penguin...I think he's a solid second pairing guy, the offense never really clicked in with the guy and there's still some rough edges to hammer out...but keep in mind, this guy was the anchor for Columbus before they even had a ship...he's been suffering through that less-than-stellar defense corps for all those years (no offense, Columbus fans, you were an expansion team after all)...there wasn't really a system there and defenseman there that said, "look, you want to do this and not this" it was trial by fire, and Klesla came out of it pretty good...is he where we thought he'd be at at this point, probably not...but he's a serviceable second pairing guy, which is never a bad thing...

Like I said, bring him in to Pittsburgh...

I think Columbus fans are sour on him because they expect too much out of him. If he were to be traded to a team where the fans expected him to just be a second pairing guy, and not one of the cornerstones of the team, he would probably be greatly appreciated for what he brings. Just a theory.
