That's complete crap. Isn't Gillett a huge Habs fan? Why would he buy the team, stick with them through the hard years and sell them just when they're geting good? Sure, he's a businessman and all, but he could've made more money investing in something else if that was his intent.
Uncle George vehemetely denies what Balsillie says. its right there in the article
Quote:
However we know George Gillett is a smart business man and everybody has a price.
I think what i'm saying is that he is not actively shopping the team... but if someone makes him an offer that is a severe overpayment for it, he'd be dumb to turn them down.
We are the third highest valued club in the league according to Forbes... so its no doubt we are attractive.
And Balsille also says it would be stupid to move the team out of Montreal, which is right.

Maybe he thinks the stock market is going to tank even more in the near future and is planning on getting out before things get worse. That, and the low Canadian dollar.

Basically it says : Gillet denied with véhémence (wtf that means) Balsillie's affirmation: "throughout the years, we were contacted by a lot of people interested in buying the Canadiens. Never, Ever, whether it's in the past or now, we thought of selling of even having talks on selling the team. In this centenary year, while we're hosting the ASG, while we have the best fans in the world and a have a wonderful team, I wonder why someone would make up such a story.

.
As much as Gillet is a great owner, that's the scary part, in the end, a business is a business. And Balsilie is swimming in money, he could be willing to overpay for a franchise like the Habs.

Gillet couldn't be clearer I think.
Vehemence means he used very strong language, and made it extremely clear with no room for anyone to read between the lines. It means he said it in a tone that means "I'm Dead Serious here, there is no room for discussion."

Thanks. I knew, with the context and all, it meant something like this. Tbh, first time I see this word.

well if you get an owner willing to overpay for the team... then its obvious he doesn't care about money and only cares about winning for his own personal pride. I don't think this would be a bad situation.
However I love George Gillett as our owner, and I would be upset to see him sell.
But as long as Balsille recognizes that Gainey is doing a great job... lets him spend anything he has to, and continues to run the team in a way that says we want to win and i don't care how much it costs. Well that would be essentially the same way that Gillett is running the team now.
A guy isn't gonna overpay for the team only to try and skimp on the budget the way Molson's did at the end.

Balsille says right in the article that he'd never move the team. It'd be stupid to move them out of Montreal...
