Halak to Colorado proposal...

If the Habs are truly interested in Sundin, they'll need to free up cap space, right?

Maybe the Avs could eat a bad contract in order to pry Halak from you guys.

Ideas?

The Habs dont have bad contracts, maybe except for Dandenault's 1.7.

Does that leave you the cap space for Mats?

The problem is that our highest contracts are useful players:

Markov 5.75
Hamrlik 5.5
Tanguay 5.25
Koivu 4.75
Kovalev 4.5
Lang 4.0
A. Kostitsyn 3.25

The only players we could get rid of are

Dandenault 1.725
Bégin 1.057

Lang could go, but it would be damn cheap toward him...

Not really.. and we'd need some kind of goalie back.. cause we won't be sure Denis clears waivers..

No, unless Mats is ready to accept a pay cut or if he only starts to play in January .

I don't think so

We have 1.889

1.889
+ 1.725 (Dands)
+ 0.775 (Halak)

= 4.389

Not enough for Sundin

But if you do this:

1.889
+ 4.0 (Lang)
+ 0.775 (Halak)
= 6.664

A bit better...

If Mats come, Lang is the odd man out, therefore we need something for Lang and Halak from you.

A good second pairing dman is what we need.

Denis doesn't need to be waived to go up, only going down.

Makes no sense, the worst contract we have is Dandenault at 1.8, that doesn't free up nearly enough to get Sundin signed. Halak has some nice upside and a cheap contract, would be dumb to give him away like that.

Ever since BG signed Lang, Sundin was out of our plans. Gainey cares a lot about team chemistry. And he is also a honest man in his positions. He said twise so far that the Sundin option is over (once when they got Lang and second recently).

Name me one time when Gainey said something like that then he "changed his mind". A GM has only one word to lose.

The way I see it, Sundin's agent is trying to use the Habs rumors to raise the value of his player. Many did it before.

As for Halak....After what happened to Brodeur, I don't see him traded this year. Probably this summer.

They want a goalie, that's the main reason he started this thread and you don't put Halak in the deal?

meh
I wouldn't ditch halak yet
Just get over Sundin people, we dont need that kind of slime on the Habs.
Lang likes the team, he likes the city, and he has decent chemistry with some of the guys.
Let's not pull the trigger too fast on ditching Lang
Begin and Dandy on the other hand....
No one wants Dandy so might as well waive him.
There might be a few teams that could use a guy like Begin. He hits, he fights on (badly) and he is good in the lockeroom.

Uhh .. what? He's old enough to go into re-entry waivers..

Ouellet just had to go go through re-entry waivers when the Canucks called him up.

Anyway, as much as Sundin is a great player.. he's a ****ing moron. I'm not sure I want that on the club right now.

Why are people wanting to trade Lang already? He's doing pretty good considering he's played with a struggling Sergei, a 4th line Kostopoulos and a recovering Higgins so far...

I don't like the idea of trading Halak unless there's a solid backup goalie coming back. Denis isn't a bad goalie, but I think a lot of his problems are between the ears and he's better off being the starter and regaining his mental edge in the AHL. If he has a good year in Hamilton I could see making him the backup in Montreal sometime next year, but I don't want to rush him. Right now he's better off playing at a lower level and being successful. I have a lot more confidence in the Price/Halak tandem than Price/Denis at this point.

No one wants to trade Lang, but beetween him and Sundin the choice is fairly easy

Who needs Sundin?

They want Halak, we want Leopold.

Why not work from that?

No thanks, need Halak as Denis would not be the backup solution.
