Let's look at the positives...it is what it is. The deal is made, what's done is done.

Here's to hoping Carle can turn it around and help us.

To Downie, good luck buddy!!! I'm gonna miss ya.

I think Carle can become a good defenseman eventually, but I really liked Downie and Eminger had potential and I though he was coming around... I give Homer the benefit of the doubt before I judge.

This sucks.

Im glad Eminger is gone but Downie is my favorite player. This is worse than loosing Lindros.

Here's two quotes from the Tampa Forum about him

Still a little shaky in some parts of his game, like puck control and making some passes, but over has been solid. Melrose seems to like Carle and uses him at different times on the power play and the pk. He scored a goal late in the 3rd period against the Sens last week, that sent it to OT, where we won. Hopefully he is building confidence each game, and I wish we could unlock more of his offensive power he showed his rookie year, but our system has him playing a little more balanced game.

Sure hes rough around the edges now, but he still has talent, and plays well for the most part. He's a solid 2nd pairing guy right now, and long term, the guy's a great fit.

Exactly. Brutal.

It's amazing how this team buried Downie in such quick fashion; the man has had incredible success at every level and now they've thrown him to a rival with a great young nucleus in exchange for a little power play specialist who has had only one good NHL season and who has only 17 points in his last 74 games.

As much as it sucks to lose Downie, the start of his career here has be horrible. This may have been the best thing for him at this point(other than having a decent coach or giving him time in the AHL). Wish it would have turned out differently.

I hate Homer right now. He won't deal with that idiot behind the bench, yet he gets rid of a player in Downie who has pretty much been treated like **** from the get-go by Stevens. He has so much talent, as those of us who are OHL fans have witnessed, but for whatever reason has been in the dog house by that idiot Stevens.

Honest to God, I just ordered a Flyers' sweater and am going to see them in person for the first time in years, and if I had to do it over again I wouldn't bother. I don't even want to watch them on TV anymore.

What the hell does Stevens have on Holmgren?

would have been nice to find that out, would it not?

the Flyers, who have been excellent in the 1st rd., picked him in the outset...wouldn't be so quick to say he's so overrated.

All downie accomplished as a Flyer (coaches fault or not) was a 25 games suspension, some fights and at least 1(maybe 2) game costing mistakes in the ECF.

If Carle finds the change of scene is good for him, we win this trade hands down.

Stevens gave him 5 minutes per game on the 4th line. The one game he started on the 3rd line he was banished to the 4th line after one mistake. Who is going to produce given 5 minutes per game playing with Riley Cote and Arron Asham??

The facts are that Downie is 21 years old, has had incredible success at every level he's played at, won 2 WJCs, would run through a wall for his team, and is averaging 2 points per game in the AHL this season. He's the kind of guy that teams kill for when they're in their prime. Matt Carle is a dime a dozen.

I hate Stevens more than ever, and I think Holmgren is showing quite a penchant for throwing away assets.

Downie is an AHL all-star, nothing more at this point.

Carle isn't having a great year, but he'll be solid. He's being paid too much though, IMO, unless he develops a little. Of course, Coburn was sucking pretty hard when he came here, and Carle is only 24 or 25, right?

Dont get me wrong dude, Im merely saying the organization botched the start of his career here. Im curious to find out if he's glad to go.

I cant believe homer Traded Eminger though after bringing him in. I wonder how he feels about looking like a dumbass now.

Its weird. He was so poised, cool and confident when he first became GM. Now he's moves seem less confident, more head stratchers, more panicky.

All that aside, I am still excited to see a new guy come in and hopefully be better then what we got.
