I think that's normal that the starting goalie is usually better than the backup goalie... but the backup goalies exist for a reason and I think you know it too.

The shootout isn't the 'ultimate' test.. it's 95% luck. Price has had some pretty brutal shootouts too.. the game against Buffalo he was BAD in the shootout.
The shootout is a gimmick (I don't mind it), but it is what it is. Luck. If it was based on skill, Kovalev would be one of the best shooters.. however, he's very mediocre in the shootout.
yeah, statistically it's a crapshoot, will a team even make it to the shootout, and will the goalie shut them down/player make a bad move
If i become his official hater after my discussion about him today so be it. My god was Chris Higgins atrocious! Did you guys see him? especially in OT, first he passes to Komisarek when he's covered then he doesn't have the intelligence to look if Koivu actually crossed the blue line before going over at full speed. We're 15 at my house right now and we're all thinking why the heck did Carbo move Latendresse from that line, not because i consider it a demotion to play with Land and S,Kost, but man, Chris except for useless skating brings nothing Tender didn't bring in the 1st place.
And some of you would rather get rid of Kovalev or Tanguay before Higgins
This is what a lot of you sound like. It's not like our AHL starter is gonna do any better than a guy who is STILL statistically undefeated at the Bell Centre. Grow the **** up.
Oh well, our problems are minor. And when you consider "division leading" Buffalo dropped to 8-2-3 by losing in OT to Atlanta (Miller making a mere 20 saves!) 5-4, we're still the best in the division for sure. Boston's been up-and-down, Toronto gets down in games all the time, Ottawa's erratic and Buffalo has the odd stinky performance where they lose in addition to sucking.

It might be a gimmick, but, when you're on an off night, as a goalie, it just kills ya. Think of Huet. Halak has had one decent game since the start of the season. He better wake the f... up, because Denis is burning the AHL up.
bad games happen. even price had bad games last season in january. he even got sent down to hamilton for a few games... but he's now better and this season, he has been very good so far.
halak usually plays well. that's maybe two of the worst games of his career but he will come back to his normal and usual performance, I have no doubt about it.

Lats's hands consist of getting rid of the puck as soon as it touches his stick and his shot is weak. He has to rely on garbage goals to produce but he hasn't realized it yet.

Higgins entering the offensive zone with the puck = BAD.
Higgins going right to the net and waiting for the passes = GOOD.
See? That's what an objective analyst would say. But oh well, everytime Higgins' name's mentionned, people get aggressive around here...
And, I haven't even criticized him tonight... So get off your horses.
It's one thing to be a fan, it's a another to be a cheerleader...Halak is a fine young goalie but he was pretty bad tonight and especially in the SO.

Every goalie in the game has had bad games. Halak is pretty much the scapegoat since even if Price has bad games, he rarely gets the bulk of the criticism. I won't deny Halak looked shaky, but it's ******* likely he'll have an amazing game sometime soon, and most of the whiny people here will forget all about it.

I think we were 3-6-1 vs. the West last year. So for me, the claims of Western Conf. superiority kinda ring true. We had trouble with everyone, good or bad. We lost to the Wings, as expected, yet also dropped home games to the Blues and Jackets, nearly lost to Chicago (Huet's fault actually) and then lost 5-4 to Nashville after leading 4-1 with 9 minutes left (our personal meltdown of 07-08). Then we lost to Dallas, Anaheim and San Jose on the road but beat the Kings and Yotes though not in spectacular fashion. Sorry, but if we were in the West we'd have a lot more trouble finishing in the top 5 of the conf.
