I think Luongo will be Canada's starting goalie but I could certainly see Price being one of the three goalies.

Exactly what I was thinking. Add in the fact that he'd be playing in front of his home crowd and I think that gives him a bit of a motivational edge.

EDIT: just remembered that Price is from BC so that makes m motivation argument moot.

Hi , Dan, I don't know if Price's development will reach that stage or not, but if Youppi quits, I'm nominating you.

It's the LAST year of olympics.

If Brodeur is capable of an NHL job at that age, he will start for Canada..

Youppi can't quit. The habs own him!

Before Price gets that shot he is going to have to step up and be the man this season and next. Even then if marty comes back and is marty his rep is going to do it for him. Even Luongo cannot beat that

I think it is more reasonable that Price has the best shot at the following Olympics with a lot of stuff in between that must go right. A few stints starting in tourneys will help a lot

Nah, it will be awesome just to have Price there, but to dethrone Marty ? I think Luongo is more likely too.

I think its a given that Price be one of the three goaltenders. IMO he will probably be the 3rd goalie, that way he is surrounded by two veterans of senior international competition... it will be invaluable experience for Price. I think with that experience out of the way you will see him starting in the upcoming World Cups if he can keep up his stellar play.

My prediction would either be:

Brodeur
Luongo
Giguere

Or if Brodeur isn't playing for some reason:

Luongo
Giguere
Price/Fleury

Price is at least in the conversation, which speaks volumes of this 21 year old kid who has FAAR less experience then Brodeur, Luongo, Giguere or M.A. Fleury.

Considering the Olympics are on Vancouver, I'd say the tandem would look like this if all holds true till next year (not likely).

Luongo
Fleury
Price in the stands

I don't see Brodeur playing next Olympics. His age is becoming a factor and I think he'll either step aside or retire by then to let the the next generation move forward.

Pretty much what I was thinking. However, Brodeur will probably be there as a number two.

I can't see Fleury there, because Hockey Canada still had bad memories of the kid.

I see Roberto there, and they have no choice but to invite Marty. That leaves a space. And we'll see if they want to bring a kid or another vet who won't mind sitting on the bench, like they did in 2002.

Price has to prove he can be an elite goalie for a complete season. He hasn't done that yet.

I can see Brodeur not being the starter but I can't see him stepping aside voluntarily (assuming he is healthy). I guarantee that he wants it as his swan song.

As much as I like Price and dislike Brodeur, 2010 is too soon IMO. And for people suggesting that Price is a shoo-in for 2010 as a 3rd keeper, they are getting too far ahead of themselves. Guys like Fleury and Giguere have the playoff resumes at the professional level. Giguere has 2 Stanley Cup Final appearances, and a Conn Smythe Trophy. Marty Turco was there in 2006 in Turin, and while has has struggled early this year, he was an elite netminder as recently as last Spring, and his puck handling is a major asset in international rules (even though it is small ice in 2010).

Like I say, I really like Price, but I think this is just another case of the Canadian media propping up Price and discounting the merits of the other netminders who can also do the job. Price is probably Canada's number one at some point, but not now.

I could actually see Price as the 3rd goalie for Canada, but nothing more. Even then it's a bit of a longshot. Price had a great WJC, best player of the tournament, so that will help him, plus he's immensely popular and from BC.

I believe Luongo will be the goaltender, Marty is still better IMO but Lou will be on his home ice, which helps.

Price has all of this year to prove his true calibre and I assume Canada will have some sort of invite camp where he can make noise. Stevie Y and company will probably want to have a young goalie as a 3rd incase the NHL does allow its players to go in 2014. The only other strong young option is Fleury, who is sporadic and was a reason Canada lost in the WJC, so Price definitely has the advantage.

No way Giguere is making team Canada, this guy is so overrated, he is lucky to play for a team like Anaheim, he is big but so slow.. Price is already head and shoulder better technically and his play with the puck is an asset you can deny..

The Top 5 is gonna be Brodeur, Luongo, Turco, Price and Fleury. That's the order in selection likely as well. One of those guys (Brodeur, Luongo, Turco) will have to go down before Price can slide in.
