Downie is being misused. Also he is in Stevens doghouse. Downie makes a mistake, takes a bad penalty and he gets benched. He isnt going to learn a damn thing from his mistakes from the bench. sit him down, tell him what he did wrong and send him back out there. Dont want to turn this into a Downie thread.
Back to Shanahan. I would take him. if hes willing to come in for under a million I am fine with it. I dont think Nodl is ready yet. that would be the roster spot he would be taking. Shanahan is a winner and a can add veteran leadership to the lockerroom. Something that is lacking with Smith and Kapanen gone.

nodl could use a year of seasoning in the AHL anyways. a season of ripping it up can do wonders for the confidence.

He came off a 30 goal season then they replaced him with Shanahan. That really screwed up his development. It is obvious that is why his prodcution went down.

It's fine with me, as long as you make a trade first for a D-Man. Like if you were to trade a Lupul for a D-Man, I'd be all for replacing him with Shanny.

I think Knuble got a ring in '97 with the Wings, but he didn't play in the playoffs.
But if he didn't play in the playoffs...That kind of kills the whole Cup experience thing, lol
Perhaps he roomed with someone who really taught him by example? I don't know. I think the Cup experience side is a little overrated. Another veteran forward who can still put up some points would be nice. We need a top-4 defenseman more than we need that, though.
cause, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't randy jones' salary not going against the cap right now? he should be back within the next two months, right? so when comes off the long-term IR that would put them well over the cap. so unless they move a few bodies there is no way shanny is gonna be a flyer.
As a Penguins fan, I would love to see the Flyers pick up Shanahan.
From a Flyers perspective though, I don't see how it makes any sense. They have a great mix of speedy, talented forwards and don't see why they would give a guy in the later stages of his career playing time over their current group of forwards.
These types of moves are what really hurts the Flyers. Holmgren tends to have ADD and tends to make moves without thinking through it.
Talk about a stage 5 clinger...The guy is trying to live off his name.
Some guys need to learn when is the right time to hang the skates up.
