Atl/Phi

What about this one

Philadelphia acquire:

G Kari Lehtonen 3.00 RFA at the end of the season
D Garnet Exelby 1.4 signed through 2009/2010, UFA

Atlanta get:

RW Joffrey Lupul 2.3 this year, 4.25 after next season, signed
through 2012/13, UFA
D Randy Jones 2.75 signed through 2009/2010, UFA
RW David Laliberte 0.51 signed through 2009/2010, RFA
SJ's 3rd round pick, previously acquired from T.B.

Why Atlanta would do this:

I think they are looking for young scoring forwards. The organization lacks on RW's.
Lupul can be a 25+ goal scorer in this league. He has creative instincts and solid offensive acumen. He does a decent job in the defensive zone, so can be easily put on a line together with Kovalchuk. In addition he's signed for 4 more years and is still young.

David Laliberte is a young player (21) with a fair skill set. He has decent hands and offensive vision. His stats in the AHL are not too shabby (8gms, 2g, 5a +/-1, 6PM).

Randy Jones, together with Hainsey, Schneider, Enstrom and Bogosian, would strengthen their already pretty solid defense.

Why Philly would do this:

Lehtonen could be the No. 1 goaltender, the Flyers are missing for years now (Hextall says hello). He has excellent size, quickness and mobility.

Exelby is a decent defensive d-man. After not resigning Smith and the injuries to Hatch and Parent, the Flyers need more toughness at the back-end. Väänänen can't handle it alone and Alberts just sucks.

I've included Jones and Exelby to even out the cap hits as to adapt it value-wise.

Fair for booth sides?

I think Atlanta still needs a goalie.

if lehtonen is coming, i think the flyers move nitty. even better news for the thrashers, but a pick or other prospect has to come back to even it out.

i think if Atlanta trades Lehtonen; it'll no longer be the Atlanta Thrashers ina couple years. I have doubts of Pavelec being even as close to a goaltender as Lehtonen. Just my opinion.

The whole point of shopping Lehtonen, as Garrioch (I know) recently reported in the Ottawa Sun, is the fact the Thrashers feel Pavelec and Hedberg can handle the whole thing.

I don't think so. If we'd keep Biron and Lehtonen, our goaltenders alone would have a combined cap hit of 7.5. That's definetly too much. At least Biron had to be dealt.

Biron could always be moved down the stretch for very little return because he's more than a capable backup and he can take you far if he's hot. If Homer can fit it I don't see the problem with starting off that way.

Randy Jones, meh.
David Lalibert is probably a career minor leaguer.

If you want to offer Lupul and either Nodl or Giroux than sure I'd be interested. But those other two guys do absolutely nothing for me. I think EDM could probably top that offer if they want Lehtonen.

? I have no idea. Giving up Jones Lupul and a 3rd for Lehtonen isn't what I'd be planning on.

Giroux could possibly fetch Lehtonen by himself. F that.
