FLETCH - I agree and I think that (the responsibilities of the C) was part of the reason he struggled so much
Agreed. In addition I also think he's better suited to play wing with his combination of skills.

Given the above and with the makeup of this team where we need wings so badly, why did they try so hard to push him into that role?

WTF is Brandon Dubinsky doing on a "top 25 players to be traded by the deadline" list?

Ugh. That's the first time I've clicked on a link to hockeybuzz all season. Now I remember why.

Because they were trying to push Drury into the roll of the wing they need so badly.

What a joke.

Korpedo should be playing wing, I feel that's what he's best suited for and I think he could do the team a lot of good.

naslund-gomez-drury
voros-dubi-zherdev
sjostrom-korpikoski-callahan
fritsche-betts-orr

those are the line i would like to see.....but that wont happen.....BTW, what is up with drury's linemates being changed every game again?.....we all wonder why he isnt scoring....its because he hasnt had a consistent line since he came to NY and he keeps being put from wing to center....

I'd move Korpikoski up in place of Callahan and bump Sjostrom up to the third line. If I thought Sjostrom had the finishing ability, I might give a Sjo - Gomez - Korpi line a look. That line would draw a ton of penalties based on speed alone.

Naslund - Gomez - Korpikoski
Voros - Dubi - Zherdev
Sjostrom - Drury - Callahan
Fritsche - Betts - Orr

Brf.,,

Korps was pushed into the 'C' role because it was thought the Rangers were missing a top six winger (which became Drury). It was a failed experiment to say the least and I thought that was a lot to ask of Korps (and then he's sent down for not playing well while playing out of position). Eh, I guess they got the wins so who cares at this point...

Makes sense if he's taking into account players that other teams would like to acquire.

Yeah, I know. But if we want this team to go far, we need to put the most players possible in a position to succeed. In Korpi's case they simply didn't do that.

I guess he suffered in an attempt to get Gomez, Prucha and Dawes going. Now that Pruchs and Dawes have basically failed 1/5 into the season and Drury's presence didn't help Gomez, they're back to the positions that make the most sense for Drury and Korpi. Let's hope Korpi shows what we all saw in the POs last year. That'll leave us with one (major) hole at 1st line RW.

??? You must be confusing him with somebody else because that IS ONE OF THE MOST RIDICULOUS things I've heard so far this season regarding one of the players performance. Korpikoski was completely the opposite of scared and hesitant. He played hard and made smart plays, IMO was usually the best guy on his line. He just wasnt able to score, thats all.

I agree with you he wasnt getting enough minutes.

If any of these guys would go on a scoring streak, all this talk would be mute. A consistant goal scorer on the right wing has been a problem

Hope you won't be offended, STP, but that should be "moot". Sorry, but that's a pet peeve of mine.

According to Sam's update at 6:30.

I'd much rather Korpi on the wing, but at least this has Drury playing LW as opposed to RW, which is much better. Also, I like the idea of him on the line with Zherdev as the puck lugger. And it does have guys (with the possible exception of Cally) playing where their talent dictates. Still, I'd rather see:

Naslund-Gomez-Callahan
Drury-Dubinsky-Zherdev
Korpikoski-Fritsche-Voros
Sjostrom-Betts-Orr
