Why do the Oilers trade Cole to a division rival at the deadline again? Does that make them a better team for the playoffs? No.

Hence, they don't even think about this deal.

First. Gaborik is gonna want more then 8mil per. He's Hollywood.

Second. He probably gonna want to go elsewhere during free agency. Even if this Hossa Gaborik package isnt true, he will probably not re-sign with whatever team he is traded to and therefore unless it's a team is contendingfor the cup then whatever they give up will end up being overpayment. Even if they do contend but don't win, they'll regret trading for having Gaborik for a few months.

Three. Ruutu and 1st IMO is overpayment for Cole. Besides I think Minnesota would be better off with Ruutu and a 1st. (Carolina's will probably be mid to late round) Your looking at like a Taylor Doherty or Peter Holland.

Four. For Bonus marks im gonna make my offseason prediction... Gaborik jumps ship for 734mil a year in Russia

I won't get into the Gabby deal, but Edmonton robs Minny.

Then it's robbing a store full of beanie babies. Oilers don't need Ruutu nor a late 1st pick (no more prospects please).

No, you don't get it... Erik Cole sucks and has absolutely no value whatsoever at the moment we speak.

Holy jumping jesus, only at HF is a comment like this possible.

A career 20-30 gritty stanley cup winner is worthless if he isn't on pace for a career year EVERY year.

I suppose S. Kostitsyn is worthless now too

As much as I'd like to see Gaborik on the Hurricanes, I don't see how they can afford him at that salary.

Besides, how often do you see important roster players swapped for each other in deadline deals? Ruutu is second on the team in scoring (10 pts in 12 games), Seidenberg is leading the D in TOI (24:35/game) and Sutter was playing very well before his injury.

And why would Minnesota deal Ruutu when he has pre-existing chemistry with Koivu from the World Championships?

The last thing Carolina needs is another injury prone forward. No thanks.

Carolina wouldn't touch this. Sutter is supposedly a good prospect still and they need their 1st. Center something around Ruutu maybe and drop the Edmonton part.

yo hockeydude....horrible deals.

First mistake: Overpayment for 2 months of Gaborik....Carolina might not even make the playoffs this year.
Second mistake: and so why would Gaborik re-sign with Carolina if he knows other better teams can make the same...if not better offers?
Third mistake:Minnesota trading with Edmonton
Fourth mistake: Hella bad trade for Minny....Erik Cole doesnt even deserve the 4 mil.
Fifth mistake: Let alone 5.5 for 5 years

Too much for Gaborik and too much for Cole. If I were Carolina I would stick with Ruutu as well as Suter over Gaborik. I find Gaborik to be all sizzle little steak. You'll sign him for 7 years and could probably only count on him to fulfill 4 years worth of that deal and 3 years worth of it on the IR. Ruutu is starting to score and be what people were expecting of him.

If the Oilers lose patience with Cole it makes sense and works for all teams, i think.

Whether or not the oilers have lost patience has no effect whatsoever on the fact that Carolina can't afford to pay Gaborik $8 mil a year and that they won't give up all that for another injury prone player.
