As much as I like the guy and his heart to the game, I really think this means the end of Begin in Montreal. When you are passed over by Dandenault in the depth chart and that Kostopoulos makes your job better than u, you are pretty much screwed !
No matter who's playing, on a bang for the buck basis, the Habs have one of the worst fourth line in the league.
Really? I must have missed all those 20 goal scorers on all the other teams' 4th lines!
I think our normal 4th line: Lapierre/Kostopoulos/Laraque or Begin or Dandenault is as good as any in the league. This is 2008 and there are 30 teams in the league, everyone's 4th line is either journeymen, young players, or a mish mash of has beens and never weres.

Yeah, I'm really wondering about Begin's future. 1M a year and he can't even crack the lineup when Kostopoulous is out. Meaning that he's the 14th forward. Nice.
On another note, I agree with some of the earlier posters, trying Dandenault on the back end over Brisebois wouldn't be a bad idea. Still, he's a speedy fourth liner, should gel well with Lapierre. Maybe Laraque can draft some speed off of Dandenault, I don't know
Gotta feel for Begin...but I think Dandy does a better job as a 4th liner and on the PK with Laps. Only a matter of time, and Begin will be asking for an out...
Dandenault skates really well, works really hard, but he is probably the least intelligent hockey player in NHL.
Our record is better with him but common he is a non-factor the best.
Begin is passed over again. And by Dandenault? Sorry but this is a crappy move by the coach.
The only reason I can think of to put Dandenault in rather than Begin is that Dandy shoots right; maybe Carbo prefers to have him on the right wing of that line instead of a left shot like Begin? Although Lapierre shoots right, so it's not like that would be a line with three left shooters...
Dandy will allow Carbo to have flexibility on the blue line at the same time.
Hammer is banged up, O'byrne who knows how he will do and Breezer we all know how he will do. Shoud the blue line be top shape, I think Carbo would have opt for Begin.
And last year his dumb penalty got us eliminated again.
I don't pick mistakes here and there. If that was true most of the team would be gone. And good god Breezy should have never been let in the NHL in the first place!
I don't have any problems with Dandy taking the spot of Kostopoulos. Knowing that Hamrlik is maybe not at 100% it's not a bad thing to have another D in the lineup tonight.. I also think that the speed of both Lapierre and Dandenault on the 4th will put a lot of pressure on the Sen's not so good defenseman.

dandy, dandy,dandy
You don't have to look far to find a less intelligent one. How about the part-time LW on the 4th line?
As much as it sucks paying a 4th liner $1.75M.. Dandenault has been pretty okay this year. He's nothing great, but he plays a decent game of hockey. I have no problem with him being in the line-up.
imo dandy has been playing well enough, but i think the only reason he is getting more ice time than Begin is so that BG can build his trade value. Hopefully they can ship him out soon for a late pick and Begin get get some more games
That's a good point. When you consider that upcoming Habs' UFA's like Tanguay, Koivu, Kovalev & Komisarek could all be in line for raises, especially Komisarek. Also, add arbitration-eligible RFA's like Plekanec & Higgins who could also be due for raises. The early 2009-10 salary cap prediction I've read has the amount going down by $2-3 million. Some of the fringe players will likely leave, or take pay cuts in order to stay, paving the way for younger farm hands to step up, or else other NHL UFA veterans willing to play in Montreal will be signed.

They will all be gone next year, replaced my younger, cheaper, better players so room can be made to pay Koivu, Kovalev, Tanguay, and Komisarek.
