Once again, something like this would likely be picked up by at least one of the NY Post, NY Times, TSN, etc etc etc. These people clearly have connections to some regional scouts or people involved in the operations of the Rangers' prospect systems. Some small regional scout is not going to have hot info involving the transfer of a highly recognized defenseman, a 1st round pick, and a top prospect in the NHL that isn't available to anyone else.

Jordan Smith looks to be a very good guess.

He can't be signed, when he hasn't even gone through the draft yet.

Messier's son isn't that great. And Rangers fans would NOT be happy with moving a big name prospect.

I think it most definitely IS Messier's kid.

Sites like prospect park prosper by getting people excited. Building up a small story like us signing Messier's kid and getting people to check their site non-stop until the news breaks makes perfect sense. He's a prospect, he'd be a feel good story (Messier's kid) and I think that the part about making all Rangers fans happy is an assumption based solely on his last name. I doubt Rangers fans would be sour about signing Messier's kid to a low risk minor league contract and I'm sure a lot of people would be interested just because, well, he's a Messier.

I think everyone in this thread making guesses about Radulov, Ryan or even other more obscure possibilities is way off the mark. I think it's almost obvious that it would be Messier. Nothing about the way it's written leads me to believe at all otherwise.

Based on this:

Quote:
this one is special as if there was anyone who Ranger fans will adopt instantly it will be this young man.
It sounds like they're just trying to build it up, but honestly, who would Rangers fans "adopt" more quickly than Mess's son? They're just making a big deal about the name. Unless Richter and Leetch have juniors aged kids as well, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything other than Messier.

All speculation till it happens.

I'm guessing one of three things:

1. Somehow Sather made another otherworldly move for Bouwmeester, like a second round pick or something.

2. This is part of a 3-way deal and Downie is coming here.

3. Angelo Esposito

We'll see...

1. Bouwmeester isn't a prospect
2. I don't think "all Ranger fans" would love Downie. What the hell about him is a feel good story?
3. Doubt it. Once again, irrelevant to Ranger fans and is in no way a feel good story.

To me, any guy at the front end of his career is a prospect, I don't pay much attention to 24- or 120 GP non-sense.

As far as Downie, I didn't read that last little paragraph about the story of the season. I was finding it ridiculous how everyone was sayin "feel-good" story.

I was under the impression Angelo was Phil 's son....?

But why are we all assuming it's a legacy player like Geoffrion or Messier?

Guys...stick to the topic. I'd say I'm about 75% sure that it's Messier.
