I applaud all of you Habs fans for not making a big deal and complaining about this, but call me a drama queen or what you want, I wish you would! The league needs to make this a mandatory penalty, incidental or not. This was clearly on purpose and is complete lack of respect! If I'm not mistaken, I think Lapierre still has the puck or literally just got rid of it. This is what the NHL is, and then the coward fights the smallest guy on the team!
Can't disagree with you. Head shots, and there's no doubt this was a head shot, are the most dangerous aspect of the game today. As long as referees and the league will tolerate these kind of plays, especially coming from 'agitators' like Ruutu, then the level of respect between players will continue to decline. A suspension is in order.
Ruutu should probably keep his head up the next time the Habs and the Senators play. Aside from Laraque (for obvious reasons) and Kovalev, Lapierre is last guy I want to take a run at since he's the type to take a number and wait for an opportunity to exact his pound of flesh.
It was a deliberate head shot but it was against a "pest" in Lapierre and he wasn't injured. No suspension....as dumb as it is.....We should be punishing the gesture itself...not the consequence.
at first i thought it was a horrible hit but.......the intent to hurt was there with the elbow....if his elbow was not as obvious, it would be a clean hit because lapierre was in control of the puck,...at least touching it....
Phaneuf does these hits a lot of times...
Its Ruutu, he will get suspended but another player who is not a pest, he would barely get one game..
IMHO Ruutu should be suspended 2 games. The league has a perfect opportunity to send the right message to all head hunters. It fits all their criteria for a suspension except the injury. It will tell all the players we will not accept any head shot. Lappy didn't duck, his melon was on a tee and Ruutu went for it.
Kosto gets suspended cause he hit a coward that ducked away, and they say its only 3 games because there was no intent. I'm ok the suspension, it makes players accountable. If Ruutu gets nothing because of dumb luck (or maybe Lappys head is concrete) then the league is saying it's all right to continue head hunting.
Ruutu is in the mold of another player who had no respect for others. Samuellson!! How many careers did he end. Pierre Mondou and Cam Neely lost there careers to this idiot. The league never really did anything to try and police him, and 2 great players paid the price. If Ruutu and others like him are allowed to continue I fear we are doomed to lose more good NHL players.
I was at the game, and looked for Laraque as soon as Lapierre got hit. Laraque was on other side of the ice as it happened, and he bolted towards Ruutu, but Bouillion got there first.
Something tells me that you're trying to mix things up with this comment, I have no doubt that you're cognizant of the fact that Ruutu would never fight Laraque. In fact my personal feeling is that Jarko pulled this stunt in the hopes that BGL would drop the gloves, chase him around, perhaps even throw a few punches and end up with 2, 5 and a game for his troubles. A scenario which might have put the Sens in a position to get back in the game.

? You mean Maxim Lapierre?
When has he ever taken someone's number and physically solved his own problem?
He is a Hab, and for that reason I have a soft spot for him, but let's not create stories that he is the great punisher.

There we go, a "pest". It's retarded how many Ottawa fans on their board are calling him a goon.
How the hell is Lapierre a goon? Ottawa fans must only watch Ottawa hockey.

I'm not talking about dropping the gloves, Maxim won't hesitate for a second to line you up and run when you're in a vulnerable position. He'll also low bridge you or get his elbows up, leave his feet etc.
Watch BGL reaction he was chasing Ruutu down but fn Ruutu skated to Bouillon knowing very well BGL was behind him...he is a piece a crap !!! chickenchit
Bouillon was next to Ruutu and immediately dropped them. Laraque was on his way there but wasn't fast enough.
Sometimes i wonder if the media actually watch the games, did you here what sean puffy starr said this morning on team 990 " how come Bouillon is the one fighting Ruutu, i am so pissed at BGL, it is his job." If he had seen the replay b4 commenting he would have seen BGL chasing Ruutu down.

Was watching Detroit-Pitt and didn't see anything but this clip, so I do apologize. I was simply wondering though. Did Georges get him later?

No Ruutu said something to the Mont. bench and the refs and was sent to the showers. It was his way of avoiding BGL, such a fn coward. I would be embarassed to have him on my team.

Laraque made a beeline towards Ruutu but Lapierre was kneeled down (after the hit) in front of him and got in his way, that's when Bouillon stepped in.
