The early word on Daniel Briere's "lower-body" injury is that it is not an aggravation of the sports hernia for which he recently underwent surgery. His early removal from the game was "just precautionary". That said, we often hear these sorts of things after a player gets hurt, and the upcoming days will reveal a lot more about the nature of the injury.

When the Flyers played at Carolina in the preseason, I heard the Hurricanes' broadcast crew make a reference to a recent NHL GM's meeting in which the GMs purposely wanted to limit terminology with injury reports. The radio crew said that we will get many of these descriptions throughout the year, and there will be much second-guessing and speculation.

timmy P said on CSN that Briere will be traveling with the team to Pittsburgh and he'll be re-evaluated tomorrow morning. He got the impression it was something with his groin and it probably isn't serious.

He said after the game that it is a lower body injury with no relation to his abdominal injury. Do you suppose the Flyers rushed him back too quickly? Before this past weekend, I heard reports that Briere wasn't supposed to be back until later on this week, but he played on Saturday anyway. What a rough season that man has had.

briere said they were just playing cautious and that he could of finished. We ll wait and see the update tomorrow but it sounds like at most he ll miss wed and be back sat. It's not related to his surgery and Jimmy P said hes traveling with the team to Pitt so thats a very positive sign.

Although it may not be technically related to his prior injury, meaning its not the same type or area of the previus injury, its very likely it has soemthing to do with that injury. When your playing a little hurt you overcompensate to try to assure you dont put strain on or pull that muscle that was hurting so its very likely he did something while trying to prevent aggrevating it again and in turn h hurt something else.

We've got to remember that Danny is hardly a good looking guy himself.

He's rich. So many hockey players looked jacked up and then nail playmates.

And BTW: Holmgren told me this evening that Danny Briere (likely groin pull), did not return to Philadelphia but flew to Pittsburgh with the team for Thursday's game against the Penguins. Briere will be re-evaluated tomorrow in the 'Burgh:

That's one thing I despise about the NHL, is the injury reports. I wish they followed the NFL blueprint and had to disclose the injuries...or at least the time frame in which the player will be out of action.

Bob McKenzie recently said on a TSN broadcast that the GMs decided injury reports should be vague so the opposition wouldn't target a specific area on an injured player. The example shown to compliment the report was Johan Franzen in the Cup Finals who was repeatedly knocked in the head after it was disclosed he had a neck injury.

McKenzie said that, to a man, the NHL players claim they have respect for each other and would never purposely go after a specific injury, but the need to hide these injuries proves that isn't the case.

The Philadelphia Flyers held an afternoon skate today at Mellon Arena, where they will play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night (7:30 p.m., Comcast SportsNet). Earlier in the day it was announced that center Danny Briere will be out of action for the next five-to-seven days due to a slight left groin strain.

Briere, who has five goals and four assists for nine points in eight games so far this season, met with the media at the arena this afternoon.

Briere out 5-7 Days

hiding injuries in hockey is nothing new. I dont know why this is an issue now. \
You cant compare the NFL to the NHL regarding reporting injuries. Especially when it comes to the playoffs in both sports.
I do have an issue with teams leaving players on DTD for weeks. It hurts my fantasy teams
