Honestly, not that any of those the hallmarks of a good tough player, but I do not see him doing that either.
I really liked Lapierre in his first half season call up. Since then, I have not been impressed. His toughness and offensive game are just not there yet.
Not once did HF4 mention toughness. In fact... he's saying exactly that:
Lapierre is a punk, a dirty one at that... so he's EXACTLY THE TYPE OF GUY RUUTU should be afraid of..
I really hope that Ruutu gets suspended for this garbage, as I did with Commodore. The league has made it clear that their mandate is to protect players against headhunters. This was a flagrant elbow to the face. Hockey's a game of inches, and an inch either way could have knocked Lapierre cold and given him a serious concussion.
The fact that he wasn't injured should not be a huge factor in the suspension, the NHL makes it clear that intent is their most significant prerequisite in determining a suspension's length. However, everybody knows this isn't the case. I wish the NHL would flat out say that the result of a dirty hit is more directly related to the suspension than the intent. Because if you look at their policy, Kosto getting 3 games, and Commodore getting 0 is a ridiculous contradiction.
The blow of elbow to the head of Jarrko Ruttu at the place of Maxim Lapierre is not unperceived past near the national League.
The Finn will have to meet the prefect of discipline of the LNH, Wednesday, for his gesture made in third period.
Lapierre was not wounded on the play and Ruutu was seen decreeing a minor penalty for attack. Despite everything, the infringement violated two policies of the national League about the blows with the head. The first, Ruutu only seemed to aim at the head of Lapierre. The second, the blow was given with the elbow.
I never mentioned toughness, Lapierre plays with an edge (often over the edge), think Claude Lemieux without the scoring touch. The kind of guy who will dish out the odd cheapshot.
Lapierre is not like C Lemieux at all, he's just a grinder. He's not even a pest because he rarely starts ***** up. He's just good at checking.
The problem with the Ruutu(hate writing that name!) hit is that the NHL always punish the conequences instead of the intent. So he's probably gonna get less than Kosto. But the elbow was clearly premeditated. It was a dangerous cheap shot.
p.s. when Ruuto was bragging on the ice and taunting the crowd I sort of missed the days of when players could leave their benchs to take care of business. A good smack on the head would have shut him up.
Like Ruutu would fight Laraque? I'm amazed he was willing to fight Bouillon. The guy is chickencrap, plain and simple.
couldn't agree more... I have no respect for him what so ever. Moreover, he is one of the clowns who are ****ing on guys like komi cause they don't want to fight... guys that actually have talent at this game... lol , the guy is just a younger and dummer version of tucker.

I think we're talking about a different player because Lappy is not a punk. I remember when he came to the Habs he would act like a pest, the media and Carbo called him out on it and he stopped doing that. Now he's just a good checker and a good defensive player.
Neil and Ruutu both shied away from laraque little school girls!
Wouldn't you?
Ruutu may be a lot of things but he's definitely not a chicken. He fights... The same cannot be said for Lapierre and they're very similar players whether you want to admit it or not. Was the Ruutu's hit dirty? Absolutely. Should he be suspended? Well, I've seen worse (Kovalev's elbow on Hollweg last season for example...Which was totally awesome, btw) that has gone unpunished so no, I don't think he should be but he will.
It's Ruutu doing what Ruutu and those of his ilk do, cause ****. He fought Bouillion who's a tough customer and didn't turtle like others would have done in a similar situation.

Watch BGL reaction he was chasing Ruutu down but fn Ruutu skated to Bouillon knowingh very well BGL was behind him...e is a piece a crap !!! chickenchit

No you did not mention toughness. Sorry if you felt I put those words in your mouth.
That is what I would want from him. Not just yappy opportunistic physical play.

Until then, he is a project.
No worries, I didn't take your post the wrong way.
In terms of Lapierre running his mouth, I'd prefer that he cut that element of his game down. Though I have seen it be very effective, i.e., last year when the Habs played the Rags. Maxim had Avery in his face and Lapierre was asking him who he was, when Avery responded Lapierre replied that he'd never heard of him, which of course incensed the prima-donna.
There we go, a "pest". It's retarded how many Ottawa fans on their board are calling him a goon.
How the hell is Lapierre a goon? Ottawa fans must only watch Ottawa hockey.
LOL...Lapierre has amazing speed, is a great fore checker and can chip in offensively here and there...yep he is a real goon. Man...Sens fans must have some low hockey IQ.
we call him a ***** and all but would anyone here actually willingly want to fight BGL if we're his size?
Hell no! Therefore, I wouldn't go around throwing elbows at his teammates.

Not to mention he has, I believe, 2 career fights? Neither of which showed him to be much of a fighter.
