I love being justified

The Guy was 23 years old and already playing regularly with San Jose a team with a much more blueline depth then us before they gift wrapped us Gorges for Rivet lol. People are just too impatient with youngsters.

I was talking about this in the PGT as well, a lot of people forget that he is only 24, he is still improving, and at a torrid pace.

There is one thing that he does better then Komisarek, Breezer and (definetely) O'Byrne (maybe even Bouillon and Hammer)- that is the "first pass to get the puck out and start something" - You can see the way he looks once to the ice and then knows exactly where he needs to place the puck.

I wonder if there is a stat on how many icing calls vs interceptions vs succesful first passes.

And he looks like a good team guy, with good values and funny. Priceless.

SJ actually lost Gorges and MaxPac for nothing seeing as Rivet is not there anymore

I never been a fan of.. Will never miss his braincramps at crucial moments of a game.. I always thought this guy was overrated, as well as his real leadership..

I am wondering what you guys think is the best trade:

Andre Savard's Zubrus and Linden for Zednik, Bulis and a 1st round pick which became Perezhogin.

Zednik and Bulis were bright spots during our rebuilding years, they were solid young players that contributed and made us a better club. Zednik was money in the playoffs as well. Alexander Perezhogin could be a good 2nd liner in the NHL right now if he didnt bolt to Russia.

OR

Bob Gainey's Craig Rivet for Josh Gorges and a 1st round pick which became Max Pacioretty.

Rivet was about to either walk as a UFA or re-sign here with an enormous cap hit which we all know he isnt worth it. Even though he was Koivu's best friend, this trade just had to be made after we lost Souray for absolutely nothing in a career year and didnt even make the playoffs that season.

Gorges is blossoming into a top-4 D that is a rock defensively and fits really well with our core, while Pacioretty is having a slow start but has 1st line potential and could be that power forward we've missed for decades.

Which trades will go down as the better one? The one that helped us the most?

Wait a couple of years to see what Pacioretty brings to the club, if he is what he has the potential to be, this trade is a fricken landslide.

I personally like the Gorges one much more because it also got us MaxPac.
Despite his slow start, he will shine.

i just wish he had a bit more offensive knack...he looks like he would too, has decent speed, a good frame, great first pass, somebody should teach this cat to think more offensively at times...

He was an offensive defenceman in Junior, I think he will put it together some day he just hasn't had the chance to do it yet because he hasn't had that side of his game developed in a long time (didn't spend enough time in the AHL)

Hopefully seeing as how he's only 24 he will in the future

I could see him one day putting up 20-30 points... but i don't think he'll ever be a PP QB. Maybe a second wave defenceman... but not a QB. But thats okay, he doesn't need to be for us. We have Markov now and Weber, Subban, Carle in the pipeline, and who knows perhaps McDonagh will develop into that (i see him more in the mold of Hamrlik, ie the Hamrlik we have now, not the Tampa PP QB Hamrlik) or Fischer.

I don't know if Gorges will ever get that opportunity, but i think he could do it if he was given the chance... we just may have better options for an offensive D.

If he remains steady in his end and has a good breakout pass though, there will continue to be room for him in the top 6.

I just like when he talks after games, the guy is realy intelligent and bring some insight of what was going on on the ice, plus he rushed in Hollweg as fast as lightning when he attacked his team mate, he's never afraid of taking hits. He might be the most honnest player on the team after Koivu and Komo. His seriousnes about winning makes me happy, i like the guy. I never complain about a player but i did complain about him at the begining of last season, mea maxima culpa.

http://www.rivercitysports.com has jerseys from a lot of the CHL teams. I'm not sure they have every team or whether they can put names on them but it might be worth a look.
