GAME PREVIEW
The first of six meetings this season between the Los Angeles Kings and the Dallas Stars featured plenty of physical play.

It remains to be seen how much of that emotion will carry over into the next matchup.

Following a penalty-filled contest, the bottom two clubs in the Pacific Division conclude their home-and-home set in Dallas on Thursday.

Los Angeles (6-6-2) and Dallas (5-7-3) split their eight-game series in 2007-08, with each team winning three of four at home. In Tuesday game at Staples Center, the Kings emerged with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Stars.

Backup Erik Ersberg made 19 saves through overtime then turned aside four of five shots he faced in the tiebreaker, while Alexander Frolov scored in the fifth round. That helped Los Angeles cap its season-high seven-game homestand with a third straight victory.

Dallas, meanwhile, lost its second straight and finished 1-3-1 on its five-game road trip.

But Tuesday's matchup also featured several big hits. The clubs combined for 53 penalty minutes - the most since they totaled 70 in Dallas' 4-1 win at Los Angeles on Oct. 14, 2006.

Los Angeles captain Dustin Brown (20 minutes) and Dallas captain Brenden Morrow (17) received the bulk of the time in the box during the third period.

With a minute left in regulation, Brown received a five-minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct for checking Mike Ribeiro into the boards. In turn, Morrow initiated a fight with Brown that resulted in an instigator penalty and a game misconduct.

Brown was ejected, but the NHL rescinded both Morrow's automatic one-game suspension and Dallas coach Dave Tippett's $10,000 fine, according to the Stars' official Web site. League policy states that a fight instigated in the final five minutes of a contest results in the aforementioned penalties.

With Morrow expected back on Thursday, the Stars will try to get things going in their first home contest in over two weeks. Dallas is 2-1-2 at American Airlines Center thus far, and has won seven of its last eight there versus Los Angeles.

Thursday's contest also marks the home debut of right wing Jere Lehtinen, who scored in his return after missing the first 14 games because of a groin injury. He was also limited to 48 games in 2007-08 due to a sports hernia.

"You can just see him playing robotic, perfect defensive hockey out there," said Marty Turco, who is 9-2-3 with a 2.17 goals-against average in his last 14 contests versus the Kings. "And the kind of hockey we want to play, he emulates it to a T."

Dallas, though, seeks improvement on the power play as it has gone 2-for-24 in its last five games after faltering on all four chances versus the Kings. Los Angeles, meanwhile, converted on one of its five opportunities with the man advantage Tuesday and is 5-for-15 in those situations in its last three games.

The Kings have also been encouraged by the success of Ersberg, who has a 2.27 GAA during the season-best winning streak. He guided Los Angeles to its first shootout victory of the season, while improving to 2-1-0 with a 3.28 GAA in three all-time games versus the Stars.

"You have to get some stops in those situations against the top scorers in the game, and he came up pretty large for us," Kings coach Terry Murray said.

Jesus, last time I looked at the standing the Sharks were 9-2. I knew they were winning, but 27 ****ing points in 17 games, my gods.

Anyway, let's go Kings! Let's see some emotion run over from last game. Should be a good one.

Right now Dallas is worst in the league in goals against....this is the very team the Kings should be breaking out of their offensive funk against....yet they only managed 2 goals last game......they need to step it up......Let's hope the Kings score 6 or more in this one and Ribiero gets his bell rung again.......shhhhh Mike....it will be all right.

Dallas being worst in GAA probably has much to do with the fact that Zubov and Lehtinen haven't played too many games this season. I'm still hoping we get the W though!

I am sure that both of those guys help the Stars....but do not forget they were both on the Stars team that gave up 5 goals in 5 minutes to the Kings last year.....so I think that the Stars are just prone to some really bad defense at times....I think the Kings need to take advantage of that.

Dallas is still one of the better defensive teams in the league. They allow the 4th fewest shots against per game.

The only reason thier GAA is so high is becuase of all the soft goals given up by Turco.

In other words, when Turco isn't sucking, the Stars are still very hard to score on.

Check this out:

In games Brown has scored in, our record 5-1. If not, we are 1-5-2.

In games Kopitar does ANYTHING, our record is 6-1-1.

also Turco has only let up 6 goals in his last 3 games and has a save percentage in that time over .930

He's playing fine, the team isn't scoring.

I don't like how they referred to Ersberg as the backup in the post game summary from the last game. I think at this point it is safe to say he is our starter and should have been except that Murray was a 'doubting Thomas' at the beginning of the season.

This is going to be a tough game for the Kings to win. Hopefully they can take it into overtime to get an extra point. I'm just having a tough time seeing the Kings take this. Both Lehtinen and Zubov are back and healthy and the Stars are playing at home.

If the Kings do win, this will be huge - probably our biggest win of the season.

Nevertheless, I'm going to say 3-2 Stars.

I have a feeling the Stars win big. My guess is their Tuesday loss will fire them up instead of demoralize them, and I think we're due for a pounding. On the other hand, maybe I only think that because I'm so used to the post-lockout Kings. If this was last year, we'd lose 4-1. But this year, I'm not so sure. The only thing I'm convinced of is that this won't be a cakewalk win for us. If they win big, it'll say something about our team; if we outmuscle them for a squeak victory, it'll say even more.

got a feeling stars take this as well. if not it'll be a huge win for the kings, but it may say even more about the stars.

Special teams need to be huge again. If we can keep the the power play going it might be the difference we need.
